Have you had experience with Mac before? I have both here, but the Mac operating system is very different from your typical Windows. The Sony Vaios are really stylish, with the different colors and so on!
If I come accross anything interesting, I´ll let you know!

I have a problem... I have am old powerbook g3 with Mac OS 8.6 installed. Mac Os X was also installed and the boot would go to X. But one day I changed the boot to 8.6, so now it boots to *.6 but I can´t get it back to boot to X because in 8,6 it doesn´t read the higher versions for the startup disk. I have no Mac cd´s available. Is there anything I can do?

hmm theres a couple things but im not to sure... are they partintion on the same drive? and if they are then have you tried to zap the PRAM?... but you can try this simple simple solution that might help..
Restart the Mac and hold down the option key during the restart until a blue boot screen appears showing a list of bootable drives.
After the spinning watch dial stops, pick the volume/drive that has OS X on it by picking the drive icon with the mouse, then with the mouse, click the right arrow button. This should boot the Mac into OS X.

I have tried to boot holding the option key, but nothing happens, no driver to choose from. I´ve reset the PRAM thing before, that didn´t help either! But it´s ok, I´ll try to find the original cd´s and install Mac Os X again. But thanks anyway!

Im not used to Mac computers, but if its not boot manager loading some default value, than it could be that somehow ( i really dont know) your 8.6 overwritten bootcode of X. On Windows platforms it can be repaired most of the time, i dont know about Macs, honestly i dont even know if that is the case.
Not many people use Macs around here so i followed the market. More computers to fix and others stuff. And Macintosh users are in most cases IT educated in some way so they dont need day to day support on anything, only hardware related stuff.
My advice, if it is a overwritten bootcode dont do repairs yourself if you dont know what your doing because if you fail to do it properly first time you will most likely end up in unreadable disk, even possible to totally mess up HDD geometry and make it unusable. There are too many bugged software which can really mess up with your hardware. Go to friend or someone who really knows with which software he will restore bootcode and someone whos experienced because there are many similar terms and beginner can get confused easily, and you dont have too many shots on this one. LAPTOP I always get good performance on HP laptops running with Intel CPU. They are not fancy looking trend makers but do their job flawlesy, ok they went into pact with microsoft and blocked wireless network use on some of their laptops if you dont run Vista OS, but they had to release an update so that problem is solved. Strong community with support for I think every possible problem. Drivers are not a problem. If youre looking for laptop which has best keyboard on the market, work without any problems, and if you do encounter some theres large DB with solutions and you can do it yourself even if never done simmilar thing before. Ill go for HP. If it is a preinstalled OS no problem at all. If it has no OS than youll have to download drivers from HP site. (50+ advised HP laptops and none has had problems in reasonable time, not just warranty time.) They have removed exploding batteries from market so dont worry if you come across those rumors.

yea that is possible but macs are usually dummy proof and by that i mean bootcodes and things like that they dont really allow you to over-write or change unless you really no what your doing to do something by accident is hard.. and macs usually fix themselves with problems like that
im thinkin that it might be a firmware mis-match some where mayb the installation order or something the boot-up control panel... but i will def look into it abit more

Youre right about that, but i am thinking if 8.6 didnt somehow checked bootcode and found X bootcode. Because X is newer version of OS 8.6 most likely doesnt recognize it as valid and tries to repair it by writing a spare or originall copy of its own bootcode, thus making X inoperable. As i said i dont know much about Macs so sorry if im totaly on wrong track. Im just in that computer stuff too much. FIRST try to boot X from bootmanager and if that doesnt work consider other possibilites.
If you didnot change anything on your computer than it shoudnt suddenly make things inoperable just by booting other version of OS. Predobar

My god...you're all geeks!! I forgot about this thread, after having just read the OgioAnte's first post, and now I decided to come back and tell him to buy a Mac
But, to be honest, it depends on your needs, OgioAnte. If they can both do what you need and the price is not important (don't know if the Air is more expensive than the vaio?) then I would definately go with the MacBook Air. The Air is just sooo cool, unfortunately l haven't seen it live, but I heard it's even smaller than it appears on pictures etc.
I'm a huge "Mac fan" myself, since I started with a MacBook a few years ago.
Machines looks great (depends on the eye watching it, of course), the operating system is great too, it just works. And it integrates perfectly with all the software, iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie, etc etc. I've never made videos or had my photos this organised before, as when I got my first Mac.
Too bad one is not going to the US anytime soon, with the USD currency as low as it is now, a $1800 MacBook Air from the US would be $800 cheaper than buying it from the danish Apple Store. Crazy price difference!

italia, You need to have a US address to be able to buy from the US Apple Store - of course you could just do eBay or have someone from US buy one and ship it over. But when importing it to Malta, add 18% in VAT, so it goes from $1800 to $2124 (plus some fee, maybe $20 or something). It's still cheaper than the danish apple store, but I would then have to use a US keyboard instead of danish (we have æøå / ÆØÅ letters )

hahahaha so admin i guess what you are tryin to tell is that it would pretty much be pointless and useless to go through all that trouble and waiting for a the laptop.. specially becuase it doesnt have the proper keyboard..
haha gotcha
but that does raise a good idea.. mayb there are things that other members could ship to other members of different countries if its cheaper there.. but then you run the risk of gettin scammed

Of course, if it would save $800, then a US keyboard is no problem. But add 18% VAT to that $1800, then the difference is not soooo big any more.
And you're right, having mob members ship things to eachother would probably not be a good idea, there's always the risk of being scammed, plus you probably have to pay VAT/tax of the goods anyway, so the money saved might not be worth the effort / risk, depending on the goods and what kind of buyer one might be.
And we're not eBay or eMob
However, if some mob members want to trade with eachother, they can do it of course, as long as nobody blames us if the deal goes wrong
