I for one am sick of all these whinging americans slating BRM for not being so good for them. It's the poker sites that set the restrictions and since all sites want their custom they can only blame their own government.

It's basically do with the online gambling law in the US which I think was last changed in 2006. The US is clearly a lunatic country that would rather drive gambling underground than earn millions in an enormously successful and very current industry. The weird thing is that the law doesn't ban online gambling completely, merely makes it difficult for poker sites to accept american players. Thus some of the larger sites can get around the problem but for others it's just too much hassel for their legal department. I think that giving free money for gambling may be specifically illegal. There are loads of articles online that I can't be bothered to read.

edit: also, I think it may be more illegal for US players if the site is based in the US. I know it sounds crazy but I think it's legal for poker rooms to base themselves in the US so long as they only accept players from everywhere else but US players can play at sites that are based abroad.

The US is a bipolar country. Illegal to play online but OK to go to Vegas, Reno or Alantic City.

Back during the Bush administration when they were drafting the homeland security act, a half-brained senator slipped in an adendum making it a punishable offence to be caught playing poker online. Since most senators don't actually read the laws they vote into being (having aids to supply briefs) the proposal came into law.
You can find alot of this info online and there is a lobby group working to get the law overturned, but it'll be several years yet. It's a lot easier to create a law than it is to strike on down.

There are quite a few senators actually trying to push bills that would legalise online poker, gambling etc. But it requires a bit of lobbying and trying to get people to support it might take a while. In the mean time you'll have to stick to stars, ftp, ub or cake.

Might want to move overseas Tongue

Also can go to "Bunny House" and buy P***Y legally and get fucked all day long. Anywhere else, you get nailed for prostitution.......go figure.
A lot of it also has to do with taxing, how can the US get there grubby little fingers in the tax cookie jar if it is over seas?????

The idea behind UIGEA is to prohibit transfers to illegal gambling sites. Poker Stars and FTP claim that poker is not illegal gambling. Many gaming companies offer the whole smorgasbord of gaming including poker, backgammon, bets, casino games and bingo. Another aspect is ownership. Publicly traded companies may find it very difficult to operate if their business is not fully legal in the eyes of American authorities. As for brick-and-mortar casinos, it is rather clear that individual states decide how they regulate gaming. I think the problem of legality of internet gaming should be solved in some fashion. It is not good for American players if they don't have decent alternatives to PS, FTP and Cake.

No of course I don't. I'm just a normal member and I'd like to know why your rating all my posts down. I was simply answering the question or speaking the truth. It is your governments fault that you cannot play at all the poker sites FACT. Brm is a good site in my opinion and I simply think your biased when you keep giving these negative posts. Since you seem to be enjoying the site in some way, I and i'm sure other members would appreciate it if you changed your attitude towards the site. And I don't think I'm being mean to you or unfair so you've got no reason to mark all my posts down.
