Its an oldie as a matter of fact, but many ppl seem to have never heard it before...
"Every workday-morning this man steps into the elevator of his appartment-building and, on arriving at the first floor, makes his way to work. When coming back in the afternoon, he steps into the elevator again, presses the button of the 8th floor and, on arriving there, he takes the stairway to the 12th floor where he lives."
Question: "Why doesn't this man take the elevator to the 12th floor instead of walking up the steps of the remaining 4 stories?"
Hint: "The answer is more or less hidden in the riddle"
Any clever people here?
(If you know this already, plz wait a couple of hours and see some funny/silly responses)
If it is the old riddle, then the answer is that he can't reach the upper buttons. But new elevators can have two columns of buttons. If, say the building has 16 strories and the elevator has two columns of buttons, then button 12 will be, in fact, lower than button 8.

Ha. I posted the same riddle here more than a year ago. There was at one time a riddles thread and I posted a couple. My version of this riddle was slightly different but the idea was the same. Except you missed the part where if it's raining he goes straight to the 12th floor. Otherwise the solution could be he goes to visit someone on the 8th floor and walks the rest for his daily exercise.

I read it all and I didn't give the answer away. I just added a bit on. Unless in your version the answer really is he visits someone on the 8th floor.
No sorry don't remember the name of the thread or when it was, just that it was a while ago. You could try searching for riddles but I don't know long it will take to find.
edit: I found it. It was the one called native woman riddle. Starts off with that mathematical riddle, which I do sort of understand and yet it still baffles me. Like trying to get your head around the infinity of the universe. But there are other riddles after, a couple of good ones too.

In that same post, did you figure out the answer to the "fork-riddle" yourself then, or already knew the answer?
As I said, I was thinking of a similar riddle just before I read it. There is a riddle about two girls in a house, one who always lies and one who always tells the truth, which has the same solution. I knew this one from when i was a kid and my grandfather asked me but I can't remember whether I got it right before he told me the answer.
I'm contemplating bringing that old thread back especially as GeneYuss never gave the answer to his but it is two years old and we've had other riddle threads since. We don't really need two riddle threads on the top page either. However maybe it would be good to give new members a chance to see that native woman riddle. Hmm...
Here's another one anyway:
Johnny the cowboy is planning a trip across the desert. He packs up his things, saddles up and leaves his town on Friday. Unexpectedly exactly nine days later he arrives at his destination on Friday. How?
