my computer is running real slow for some reason. I am not computer literate at all and could use some help. Free is good but if I have to pay for softwear that is fine too.
When I first started with this computer it was not the fastest but that was becasue I was on dialup. I have since moved to Highspeed. It was good for a while now for the past 3 days it takes for ever to go from page to page on this forum. EXAMPLE. I make a post, then go back to main page i sit there and wait 10-15 secs while everything downloads, bottom left of my window shows like 256 items then counts down to o before the screen opens fresh. and now I cant run more then 2 poker screens or it says that my internet explorer is not responding. the poker stays running but I have to close and restart my explorer.
Things I have done already. 1 Defraged my comp, and scan disk. 2.system cleaner. 3. deleted all unused programs and 90% of my pics and music.
This is really pissing me off. what do i do.
Anyone know of a good free antivirus check and cleaner?

Do you have virus/spyware program if not write AVG in google search good free spy/virus-program. After that run both maybe you got something nasty I dont know what, but it can really slow your PC down and in worst cases a computer nerd can acces your comp, to watch your cards when you play against him. Feel free to ask

Catlady this happens to me on every thread I dont think its so much your computer or internet. You see this forum is different than others it has 1 giant page for posts in a thread when normal forums have different pages for larger threads. That is why you have to wait so long

And i think that can easily fixed by our so loved Admin HEHEHE. A 20 posts page would a decent amount i believe... What do you guys think?? Too large?

I would say that there could be a lot of registery files backed up in your registery, assuming you use windows... The problem is that some time the *.reg files are not properly removed when unintalling a program withch eventually will cause a backup in your computer. How much RAM do you have avaliable if you open up your task manager?

i think AVG is very good have it too he is free and i mean one of the best free softwares from all...stang right say how much have u RAM??The RAM is a very big factor for the internet.. when u have now a faster internet u need bigger RAM minimal 512mb for normal

that is bad when u lost all the music so bad i once lost 10000 my songs and few movies

First problem. Slow load time of the pages in forum. We all have to deal with it its normal.
Second problem. My Internet explorer crashes and I have to restart it again.
Thats more complicated because you have to update some components and then some.
First visit this page http://www.adobe.com/downloads/?ogn=EN_US-gn_dl If admin removes the link google for adobe flash player. Install Shockwave and Flash player plugin for IE. It is not related to BRM client but MS. After you have finished installing both plugins you will have to update your IE. If youre using XP windows (hopefully) then youll have to turn on your automatic update feature in windows security center. To activate automatic updates follow this: Start => All Programs => Accessories => System Tools => Security Center(click ) When youre in securitycenter you have 2 options which are called Automatic updates. DONT click on one which has ON or OFF besides it. Choose one in the bottom of the window. It will open another window where you will have options:
Automatic (Recommended) <= CHOOSE THIS ONE
After you have selected Automatic click on Apply or OK at the bottom of the window and if updates are not started automatically and i dont think they will wait till scheduled time for update comes. ( default is Every day at 3.00 AM, but you can change it to the time that please you the most).
Why all this, because you will get newest Malicious software removal tool from microsoft, you will get critical updates for your IE, and some other critical updates for your XP. After that you will see changes next time you will restart your computer after those updates are installed. I havent read info articles about updates for IE (lame), but after those my problems with IE crash after installing Flash and Shockwave have disappeared. Some bug in previous updates to the IE, my guess because it worked fine before those update. Dont use Windows update in Start menu or from Tools menu in IE, it has to be done by automatic update.
And if the problem with crashing poker windows still exists, youre are using bodog client which has tendency to crash with multiple windows. Some other poker clients crash if you open another poker room client of same manufacturer (Microgaming, Doyle, Gnuf, etc...). Some new poker clients can crash when you open poker client and casino client(Microgaming). Dont want to explaing the details but it is not entirely clients fault and certainly not yours. Damn missed a tourney writing this post. LOL.

It is true that Firefox looks faster but it is not safer, at least latest version Ive tried compared to IE of that time. Reason, It is faster only because it doesnt check all the stuff which IE 7.0 does and it doesnt offer so many possibilities in blocking or allowing certain content found on internet. Ok majority says it is faster but that doesnt necesseraliy be the right assesment. Majority says also that mp3 is ultimate format for music and it is not. Maybe it is faster than IE when IE checks for some stupid stuff like phishing site on lets say BRM. thats stupid, although BRM is not such a good example there are news site etc..., than it looks slower but if you turn off that feature and use it only when youre submiting your sensitive data than you wont notice any difference at all. Another thing I dont like about Firefox is antibanner control, i dont know have they improved it lately but 75% of banners went through Firefox so called antibanner. Thats just a beginning, i could go all night like this, but for starters take some half an hour and look what is your firefox caching on your computer. IE 7.0 is my choice because finally MS understood that you cant have browser without multiple tabs, the only reason why i was using Firefox in first place.
And to reply to that IT Bible quote i would like to say that with that kind off educated IT proffesionals we got to the new information age where computers dont have building standards, where one company can block customer from using the hardware without new software, that people are still using same logical principals in calculations as they did in 1950. Yes its well over that magical number. I admire the russians if not for anything else but trying to build trinary computer. And all those great minds got theyre ego pumped up in some narrow minded university where they dont learn primary thing and that is thinking with your own head. This is written on client which was coded with computer langauge 30 years old.
