Of cause this is difficult, as the range in a heads up game is so wide from the start. You have to look at the board, if draws are out, and at earlier hands with that opponent. HU usually any pair is strong, so if your opponent calls he can easily have middle or bottom pair and wants to bring this to showdown.

It is very difficult ...I'm not good in HU, and am just trying this kind of game recently...
To put my oppo on a range I usually consider how often my oppo call, raise or reraise: the more often he do the wider is their range....I do these considerations in early stage when I don't have read on oppo.

Sometimes I pay small pot, even if I know I will surely lose, to see my oppo cards and to understand his way of playing.

In HU it is very hard to put your opponent on a range, because they normally play very aggressive. But there are some read you can make. Like your opponent like's to play suited hands even if they aren't connected or with a high card.

Also Cbets can make good reads. Does he make a Cbet with everyhand or only with hands who have potential.

I dont think a Vpip % will say a lot about his hand range because you should play about 60% of your hands no matter what. 3Bet is a more important thing to watch although i am not sure how to read his hand from that.

you have also a hand history, a statistics and you can attach comments to your opponents.
Make use of this, it can be really helpful

Thee are lots of differing softwares you can get to capture all the detail of your and your oponants hands and the history of what they do and when they call or raise, the hands they play and from this you can determin what range they are normally playing BUT if you are straight HU ie just 2 from the start with the blinds so low you will have a different stratergy from the begining of a game to the end, just as you would in a MTT or SnG.
Every Poker variation has different stratergys at different points in the game ie "Early / Mid / Late" stratergy.
Just coz you are HU i dont belive this is any different.
Just try and pick up on any patterns ie Cbets and checking trips, thing like that.
Dont be to hasty to get your chips in early as you might in a SnG or MTT (rebuy) try and learn the player as well as play the game, if you have no software to capture this then take notes. HU you have the time to comsentrate on just 1 player so you need to watch carefully.
Bare in mind if you want to make some value bets or calls do so in a situaltion when you will gain information on you op, ie they min bet all the way the the river and you think he is drawing say to a flush, the suit comes for him and he min bets again. even if you think he had the flush if you can afford the call it would be good to defenantly know so call it, next time you'll have a clue about what he is thinking ie min bet to a draw...good info but make sure you capture the info for next time you play them.
Good luck dude. Blink
