I started playing poker about 4 years ago with MTTs only and I got pretty good at MTT strategy, and won 3 x 5000+ player tourneys within the first 6 months. Then I got tired of the endless long hauls and some nights I couldn't face playing for 6-7 hours so I started to play some ring games. I found it hard to adjust from MTT to ring games at first, but now I mostly only play ring games - max. 6 players - for low stakes (0.02/0.04 or 0.05/0.10) for about 2-3 hours a day and most days I make a small profit. If I finish $1 ahead, I'm happy (as long as I don't lose) and it's rare for me to win more than $5 a night, although occasionally I win maybe $10-15. Obviously, I have some losing days too!
Problem is, sometimes I want to play MTT - usually if it's a "guarantee" and if the player/pot ratio is good - but I find my game and strategy doesn't make the jump from 6 player to 9 or 10 player tables very well and my concentration goes easily.
Also, I find that when I play a few MTTs now, my ring game deteriorates until I've played for a few hours.
So, what do other people do? Do you only play MTT / SNG / ring or do you play all three and, what advice would you give on adjusting from MTT to ring . . . and vice versa?

Although I think Ring games are the ones most professional players prefer for making some good everyday money, it's obvious that you have to risk more of your bankroll in order to make a decent profit. On the plus side is that you can study some weaker players and hunt 'em down for everyday profit. Personally I like MTTs and only MTTs (although I play the occasional 9-handed SnG from time to time). I like the competition there and the idea of starting with a freeroll or some 2.20$ qualifier, and go satellite after satellite to play with the big boys, at a $200k or Sunday Million for some real s**t... I guess I'll be a tournament player for life, must have got the virus from my 'Magic The Gathering' days or from corny Trivial Pursuit marathons with my high-school sweetheart...

could you add this types of games to your poll?
- double or nothing SnG - heads up - Rush poker tournies
as for me, I have no problem in adaptation from MTT & SnG to ring games... But I don't like ring games and almost never play for cash in ring games. Heads up is a different story! It is profitable for me, BUT this one really needs an adaptation! This is a very different game!!
P.S. please note, that I play Omaha, not Hold'em. Maybe that's why I have another views on adaptation between game types. The only thing which can make me to play Hold'em is a very good prise/ppl in MTT. But I almost never can adapt well to iy after Omaha wars

Me too, only thing is, I always end up losing my patience in cash games on low stakes.
I try to stick to MTT, cause it's my only profitable way of poker.....

Unfortunately, it's too late now or I definitely would have added these and every other variation of SNG in existence. I also would like to have added things like whether you only play a certain type of SNG depending on the day of the week and whether you play any of them naked or wearing women's clothes.

I started playing Fixed Limit on PP, then I moved on Pokerstars where i played low buy-in SNG or MTTs. I lost all my money, then I discovered BRMob and I get 50$ on FTP, and now I have 50$ too. My bankroll didn't move ...

Prefer ring games due to time. It can be far too difficult to make the time to play MTT's if u intend to win( Go deep), And I find that there seems to be a lot of collusion in SnG's.
