Omaha High  0
As I have stated in an earlier post, I love the game of Omaha but I am a fairly new player of it. I know what are some pretty good starting hands . I am looking for any other tips you might be able to give me. I love the action in the game but that is where most of my losings have gone. Ill get up on holdem and then lose it all on Omaha.

i recommend to u, read the omaha (HL and H) part in the super system 2, really teach u to play poker....
as u say, the starting hands are very important in this game, more then in hold-em

Thank you for the replys. I will make a point to read some books on it. It really is the most exciting game that I have ever played. I try to stay away from the high low games. Dont seem to be worth the investment to me.

depending on what limits you play i think depends on how you should play omaha, when you are playing against better opposition it seems to be more about raising all your AA67 suited twice and contuation betting the flop. however in lower limits where you get 60 % of the table limping and then calling raises aswell it can often be better to in my opinion loosen your hand selection aa bit and start playing things like 6789, waiting to you hit big draws and then pumping the pot, it seems you will always get callers and if you hit they will still call with their two pair. A second reason i think its better to limp all of your hands than raise thim at these weaker tables because if you are only raising things like AAxx when you do set your aces you are far less likely to be payed off, and unlike holdem the only value over pairs have is for set value, not taking down the pot on their own

i lose my most money on set over set, because it is so hard to lay down a set on a rainbow board with no straight possible, and this is often the case because it will be raise reraise on the flop, when their is nothing too scary but you are still dominated. what i did to stop this was i have almost stopped playing any pair in my hand beneath 9 or 10, this means that when i set at least its a high one, not six's.

to play this more passive hit a hand or draw and then bet style of omaha you must be at a full table, because otherwise you will just blind out.

you should try some hi lo, i know of a few sites that have microlimits hi lo, if you take a winning hi strategy to a hi low table you will often win even more money, i sometimes go only for hi unless i get dealt those monster low hands like A234, and when you have this strategy of going for only hi you will find that people will love to draw to their lows, and so about 50 percent of the time you take the whole pot, and the other 50 percent you just get half, but its usually 3 or 4 way and so you are still making money.

------------
as you can see i have quite a passion for omaha, it is where i have had my best runs ever, i once turned 7 dollars into 107 on a single 0.10-0.25 table in about half an hour. The last piece of information i can give you is dont bet the second and third nuts strong on the river, because anyone with a weaker hand isnt probably likely to call, (unlike holdem) and any one with a stronger hand will most likely reraise, and you will be forced to call.

this same principle goes for anytime you flop a straight or flush or anything, if you raise it and get 3 callers assume that they have everything out there which can beat you, say you flop the nut heart flush and still get two callers, if the turn pairs then you are beat, dont even ponder it, i am telling you at least 75 percent of the time you get multiple callers on a flush board is because they have set and wont to full house you, that other 25 percent of the time they will have weaker flushes. same goes with a straight, say its a 456 board and you are sitting their with 78, if you pot bet and someone reraises you dont be suprised if they hold something like 789, or 78 with the flushdraw, with two cards to come at best you are splitting it and at worst you are losing the whole thing, sometimes it can be best to lay down the nuts on the flop if you are pretty certain that they have the nuts also + redraws, however even i usually call in this situation, but i always first ponder if i should,

Yea I play low limit when playing Omaha since I am just learning. You are right just about half of the people will go in. I have a hard time laying down cards like sets, it seems like more often or not if you dont have the absolute best hand posible someone sles will have it.

i think you played it perfect admin, AA910 suited once is about as good as you can ask for, and by raise reraise you got a lot of dead money in the pot and isolated it down to heads up.

i read somewhere that the best omaha hands are AAKK then AATJ so i wouldnt be suprised if AA9T is in the top 5 omaha hands, and since there are so many omaha hands sometimes you gota go into those slight favourite races.

It's my own fault and I knew it while it was happening Big Smile

Made all the classic mistakes:
* First of all, didn't pay 100% attention ("Knocked Up" ain't worthing loosing €50 over Big Smile - boring movie!)
* Tired...
* A bit bored...
* Play wayyy too many hands

So my stack just kept going down and down from those €80'ish I ended up with after my AA9T hand Big Smile

fair enough, i almost always single table omaha, or if im multitabling it will be one holdem and one omaha, its one of the games i pay the most attention to, stud i will two table, holdem 3 -4 table but omaha & omaha hi lo and heads up usually get my full attention.

That's understandable, SCD. I will go back to hold'em again for a while, that's still fun Smile
