Poker a crime???  0
Hey guys, here is my concern. Hope to hear how it is in your country, cause i might immigrate soon.
In denmark poker is known as a game of luck and is called a hazard-game, like roulette, craps etc.
Just before Christmas the danish poker society was in city court, they were acused of arranging illegal hazard game(even a home game is illegal if you play 4 money). But the case got turned around when danish poker society got the court to see that poker is a skill game with a luck factor. Danish poker society was released of charges, because Lyngby(city) court believed that poker is a skill game. But the laws in Denmark still say its hazard, so shortly after the city court win it was appeald by the state to Country court. Sadly they lost in country court room so poker is now offically an illegal hazard game in denmark Disagree
A widness in the court room was owner of CPH Casino, who said in court that poker was only luck nothing else, he allways wins and that shows that it is luck he said.
The reason for this bull is if poker becomes a skill game no 1 would go to his casino to play it (in denmark hazard games only legal at casino).
Danish poker magazine ACE interviewed the idiot where he said the same bull, so they asked him if he would play heads-up high stakes with his own money against Gus.(Gus has a pokerblog on ACE site where danish poker players follow him) Casino owner said yes to the match and Gus is of course allways ready, Gus was thrilled when he heard of the match.
Gus also gave his comment on the stupid comment about poker in court. Gus said: If its pure luck/hazard why cant i play against house in your casino? Or in any casino? Casino owner didnt answer.
So now im affraid its only a question of time before online poker will become illegal in Denmark. I recently heard that know its also illegal in germany, germans????
Only good thing about this story is we got an exciting heads up match soon
Retard VS Gus
Also would like to hear about tax rules in your country, in DK no tax if you play at EU site. Big Smile

lol what a scum @ the casino man.
Poker is a game of skill, but the luck factor plays a role too.
It's about 60% - 40% i would say.

i agree, maybe i would say 65-35% . I forgot to write the casino owners main argument that poker was a luck...he said : You cant control your down cards and you cant control the cards on board, and because of that its pure luck. Aww crap!

Nitscho would you tell me how the rules are in germany??

The rules for playing? You must be at least 18.
That argument of the owner IS right, but you can force your opponennts to think their cards are worse than yours. So you CAN control the game

But i heard online poker had become illegal in germany just like USA?

Yes it is illegal to play for money.
Some poker clubs have poker for goods (books, tft-displays, ...) which is ok, but can cause problems as well - depending on the city

It is not allowed to play online as well if you follow the law but at the moment nobody cares and it could be a problem for german authorities because it would violate EU-laws if you restrict playing on an english poker room as the webpage would be on english ground by the law.

And it is no skill game as well in Germany!
Greetz to Denmark

Thanks for your nice reply, that was the info i was looking. Though im sad that this poker restriction is spreding because of compulsive gamblers or what ever causes it.
As said poker is now a hazard game in DK so its illegal to arrange games and play for money. But its still legal to play online and the government just stated that they dont have any plans for changing the online law. In Denmark they are also talking about changing online law would violate EU laws.

In my opinion luck is not a major factor in poker, just a temporary one, as I think that all luck evens out in the end of the year Smile but sure it's sad when the unlucky moment comes when a huge pot is played. Anyway I'd say about 80-20 or 85-15

And I'm glad that here in Finland online poker is allowed and homegames too if you dont take rake Smile to some extent
