I play poker in my university society every week but Monday I played poker in a casino for the first time. £22 double stack freezeout. 30 runners and top 3 paid. The standard of play was mixed but on the whole pretty weak. Still I didn't do too well as I finished 10th.
The most interesting hand on the night I wasn't involved in but it's worth telling from the point of view of one player.
He has Ah 5h and makes a standard raise in middle position. There was one late caller and I folded in the small blind. The big blind called. Flop came something like Kh Jh 3h. Big blind checked. Hero bets about a third of the pot. Late caller folds and big blind calls. Turn comes 9h. Check. Bet. Call. Can't remember how much the bet was but it must have been fairly big. River comes Qh. The big blind checks. Ah 5h goes all-in almost instantly thinking he has the nut flush. Big blind calls and shows 10h with a Jo - straight flush. So sick and just shows that bad beats can be just as bad live as online. Personally I think I may have checked the river since there are only so many heart cards my opponent can have.
I myself was knocked out a while later. I was short-stacked with about 11 big blinds. I had K9 and I raised to about 2 and a half big blinds from CO. The big blind had been fairly loose called. Flop came 9 high. He checked. I bet. He shoved. I called. He had 2 pair. Something like 9 5o. Probably didn't play the hand so good but it was pretty cold.
Fortunately I made my money back last night. I came second in a £10 deep-stack freeze out and finished £30 up. There was only 13 players in. I should have finished first rightly since the last hand I called all-in preflop, I had AJ against 6 8 and he hit trips. He had me covered by less than 1 and a half bb. But I'm not complaining since I made a profit.

I absolutely love live play, and I definately would have to agree that the beats live can be just as bad as online. As a matter of fact they are probably worse since you still have to sit across the table and look at the idiot!

Flex, I feel for you, I played live last night as well. My night went considerably better, my queens held up. Hope things turn around for you, try and not get frustrated and I'm sure they will. GL at the tables

Actually I tend to find bad beats affect me less playing live but maybe it's the people I play with. Cos it's always friendly and the guys I play will always apoloise to you. It's still not nice but I've never been tilted playing live unlike online. I can be knocked out of a live tourney and play a cash game with no worries. What does get to me though is if I screw up the hand. If I play bad I get annoyed but if I play well and lose it's fine.
Last night I didn't have many unlucky hands. In fact the last hand was one of only two I remember. The other time I called an all-in with QQ and ace rag hit his ace but I had enough chips back to comfortably lose the hand. Most of the bad luck happened to other people although I had a long while where I wasn't getting any playable hands.
There were quite a few cold hands last night though. Another cold hand I sort of remember went, the board was something like 3 J J A 5. Don't know how it happened but one guy went all-in with 55 and the other had AJ.

Awood88, Just wait until you play casino play.....If you think there's some idiots online, you should sit down to 1-2 game at almost any casino. You'd think these guys were playing penny ante the way they throw around money with wreckless abandon. My personal favorite is when you get induce and all-in shove with an overpair, they refuse to show, until they turn their two outer, jump out of their seat, and begin hollaring like they just purchased the winnig scratch off! Anyhow, Gl @ the tables Mobster's be it live or virtual.

Yeah, live-play is the best. And i agree you"ll find donks and run into bad beats just as you do online. It seems like it happens more online, but yeah, you play way more hands online. Nice live experience, Awood, better luck next time. I can understand how sick you must have felt, Flex, that was a sick call and hit . And Hoodi, you did way better, your QQ held up, and...... Gl to all
