Hi,
to compete in Freerolls for the beginning is a good idea, to get you on the way. An advantage of those tourneys is that you cannot go bankrupt while playing them and there is a big variety of different player types you might face. Try, look and learn a while and by time your game may improve. If you are interested in cash game and long term winnings there is no other way then the hard one - study the basics for modern poker play. There are some good books around. Or joining one of the online Pokerschools maybe fits even better for you because theres support and special feedback on related topics. I would post a good site here, but I think that´s not allowed at this place and I dont want to get banned for it.
Concerning your bankroll management keep this in mind for the moment: You dont want to take yourself under pressure and you dont want to get broke, so keep playing the lowest stakes possible until you know when to upgrade your level and why and when you have to turn around and step back again.

Here is a simple standard BM for NLHE:
Take 100 Big Blinds (one Buy In) to begin your game at the lowest stakes possible. When you have got 25 Buy Ins of the next higher stakes then its ok to play them. If you lose and only got 25 Buy Ins for the next lower level left then its wise to go back there and try again. If you hold it this way, your bankroll has a chance to grow without beeing in the line of unnecessarily risk.

Hope that helps a bit. Good cards and a lot of fun at the tables.

Here's some tips from fultilt.
1. Never play at a table where the by in is more then 5% of your bankroll. In multitable (mtt's) tourneys never play for more then 2 % of your bankroll. In sit n go's single table 5 % is permissible.
2. If you lose your 5% continue to go down in stakes.
3. If you go on tilt. Take a break. The worse thing you can to is keep play when your pissed.

If you want to learn more fulltilt has a bunch of training vids that will help you improve your strategies in both poker and bankroll management.

I find gus hansens dominating the table video to be the most effective myself. But it may not be for you.

Freerolls are good. Another thing you might wanna start up with is limit poker. You get to play a lot more hands before you lose your money, thus learning a lot more.

What you should not do, is play playmoney, thinking you learn about poker, because you don't. It's a totally different game. (Might be good for learning how the software works, though.)

Good luck!

Well, another view: If you are already a Fulltilt Player, try the Playmoney Steps SNGs. Let me say from Step 5 and above the level is moderate and the basic Steps format itself teaches a lot, as you would soon experience the players at these games playing the hell out of their wholecards to reach step 7 and win it finally. I played that also, and imho its a good experience if someone really wants to win, even if theres no cash. A good thing to realize and adjust your personal playing skills.

Don´t push your money thoughtlessly on the cash tables. Online poker rooms are full of creatures hiding in dark places, lurking for bounty...

I'm by far an experienced poker player, but the best advice I've received in my 5/6 months of playing poker has been from the people here at BRM, the Mobsters if you will. There's a lot of great advice right in this forum & throughout the site. Check out "Poker Strategies" here in BRM and scroll through all the threads. You'll find all types of great feedback from all types of poker scenario's.
As for freerolls, I agree they're quite a training course and there's not much mindset as opposed to playing in a buy in tourny or SnG's. The freerolls expose you to every type of poker player/style you'll ever want to experience. Good Luck in your quest and Start by playing the game for fun, not to think you'll make lots of $$. Personal opinion! Good Luck to All!

But it could actually be him. There is a film in a thread around here somewhere in which he makes a short commercial for BRM. It looks a bit like the dude on this picture.

Mahdorf, get over here and resolve this issue!
