You might like this thread http://www.bankrollmob.com/forum.asp?mode=thread&id...
A online survay of NLHE plyers was conducted a while back 73 percent of the respondents said they used drugs and other substances to focus and concentrate better. The rest used these products to calm their nerves, stay awake, and improve memory. (from amature to pro)

Vote in the poll in the link, kina intresting to see what mobsters think and use.

He yes interesting thread. I can't see alcohol, coke, meth and stuff like that
improve your game. I think when you have to spend more than half a day behind
you pc playing poker, i can understand that some people use something. Not to
improve your game but because sitting still for such a long time can be a drag,
even with poker. The only substances i ever used during poker would be
coca cola and (sry i live in the Netherlands) sometimes marijuana. But really
very seldom cause here in Holland its so normal you don't feel the need to.
As u can get it everywhere( even in small villages) no one feels tempted to
'the forbidden' like in most countries were its ilegal.
Sry no funny or embaressing stories Cool

There was a recent study on meth-amphetamine that indicated it improves your WORKING memory (not your long term memory). Meth amphetamine would certainly be a performance enhancing drug. Obviously drugs such as ketamine, dxm, lcd, etc would NOT improve your chances at the table. Coke wouldn't be as effective, since it has such a short half life, you may be in an enhanced mentally alert state for a little while, but in an MTT or something, you would end up 'burnt' out for far longer.

And obviously if you were playing an all nighter game from midnight-8am or something your chances would improve significantly with strong stimulants (methamph, amph).

Ha ha, "sunstance" good eye Jack, in my defense the "n" is right beside the "b". Lol. Thumbs Up

Good thread B1gfoot, still wanna know what "blue" is. Also laughed at the MDMA comment, affinity with the cards.

I personaly, like Jeff, Jess, and Jack, play strictly clean. I don't even use caffeine or nicotine. It wasn't until recently I began experimenting with a common substance to help with pain control (underlying medical issue . . . for real though) that I wondered how it would affect my game.

I think the answer to this question is a no brainer really for substances that ruin your game. Alcohol and drugs definately have a bad influence about your ability to think clear, so obvious will affect in a bad manner your game.
In fact there is a high stakes poker player that actually admitted he used to play high stakes poker intoxicated. Now he quit doing it but these behaivour cost him almost 700.000 dollars in a single day. I'm talking about Ilari "Ziigmund" Sahamies.
Now as for substances that improve your play, never heard of them, but i think you need to be awake and have a clear mind if you want to make profit from playing.

I could see mental stimulants like Ritalin having a positive affect on your game. It's also so common I imagine many players use it.

Poker isn't that complicated a game so I don't think mental stimulants are very practical or provide any substantial performance boost.

Never tried/used Ritalin before, but if your not hyperactive, doesen't it makes
you hyper and restless? If so it can't be good for your pokergame?
