The United States violated global trade law by shutting down Internet gambling sites based in Antigua and elsewhere and prosecuting their owners, according to Antigua and Barbuda officials considering action in the World Trade Organization.....Read more http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/04/21/us-usa-antigu...

No surprise here. We are America's closest trader, and they screw us constantly. So for them to do something "illegal", well they been doing that for the past 300 years. But to find them guilty, they would have to appear in a court room outside the US. The US courts won't rule against the US gov. Maybe, but I just don't see it happeneing. Yes the Iraq war was illegal, and so was the Vietnam war, but that has nothing to do with poker. Will be interesting in the next few weeks to see what happens.

LMAO
USA has shown time & time again in matters far more serious than this (think Geneva convention) that they couldn't give two shits about international law.

@bmwman ofc the iraq war has nothing to do with poker... all im saying, if a country is able to start a war without consequences, then why would they be afraid of a state like antigua with 500 habitants.. i dont even think the US is gonna pay them a cent tbh lol

I wasn't bringing down your comment teddy. I thought it was hillarious because I said the same thing in threads. Funny how America has to have their fingers in everything. If there isn't a war to fight, start 1. If there is money to be made, collect it. Both those things are coincidently the same thing. America starts a war to make money from rebuilding, shut down poker sites to make money.
For those of you who don't know this. I expect many Europeans don't, but the American Government laid ownership claims on the WWW many years ago. Yes, they think because it started there, that they own it. Even though countries have their "own internet" now.

as the US are the world police they are free to do anything they want to if (inter)national security is in danger. And of course this is the case... just as it always is. I see someone in front of a camera saying that the shutdown was another huge step in the fight against terror.... or communism... or something like that...

America is worst in terms of international law and politics, I totally agree. And I'm sure that they will continue to be until the world collectively says no. As it stands they feel that the rest of the world needs them (although perhaps not as much lately) and that supposedly gives them license to do as they please.

Reading all the comments here, I guess everybody feels the same. The US will do whatever it wants, whenever it wants, and there aren´t many countries, jointly or otherwise, who will be able to do anything about it anytime soon.
I used to love the States and what they stood for, but that feeling was crushed a long time ago already...

I have been wondering about that and how the laws apply if you are playing on a website which is located in Antigua, are you not virtually there? The sites had to do backflips and somersaults to get money back and forth, but they were forced to do this to stay in business. I do think that they were right about the money laundering, as I had heard numerous rumours of the sites being used by players to accomplish this.

i dont know if its illegal or legal but US govt can still take action for screwing with the banks based in US. this just adds a little hope for US players , but the way US govt has acted in this matter i dnt think they gonna bow down easily.

I wish I could be mad at all the America bashing, but I'm afraid I agree with Jack....America used to stand for something better....My country didn't always try to be "the world" police. I think many other countries have freedoms today, that they wouldn't have if it weren't for America. With that being said, i hope that the Federal Government gets everything it deserves for it's hainus actions.
