As the title explains, I'm at a loss as to what villain would have that he'd just give up on the river. After the hand he said "nice chase" which I assume means he figures I hit the case ace on the river. To me that means he likely had an overpair.
I have a sneaking suspicion he likely had JJ, QQ or KK.
Interested to see what others have to say.

See, I was thinking that too. J10, Q10 or K10, or an overpair. If he had a hand like 10-8, he woulda at least called my river raise with his 2 pair. I don't think he would have 3 barrelled if he has like 98, cuz it wouldn't make sense to bet with just second pair and a missed draw on all 3 streets. Crazier things have happened though.

I dont know if i have this right but if he had 89 diamonds why he folded on the river? He would have flush with only KQJ in the game and while his bet was 60 cents he only needed 1.39 to see it. So if he had that he should have called probably. Doesnt make sense. I would go for a pair of T probably like K,Q,J. Of course he could have bluffed it all the way

Ok, it is NL4. So it is difficult to say anything, but this is really strange. Just a call preflop, then three bets out of position on a T-high board, and a fold to the raise at the river. JJ? Maybe QQ?

i think your villain probably has J-K 10 cant see him folding 89 diamonds here, and would expect a raise preflop with JJ/QQ but like shokaku said its NL4, cud be anything

He put you on the str8, as to what he has, well I guess the 8 or 10 any PP, such a wide range of possabilitys here, random guess, possibly he did mean chasing the A, but I dont think so, as If he puts you on chasing that A he would have bet higher on the turn.
I would say he had a 10 with a good kicker like a K, Q or J or maybe 99 because he tought he had the best hand untill the river. I don't think he had JJ, QQ or KK but it's also a possibility.
Anyways you played the hand nicely Retribution, keep it up

Yeah, I think the hand played well, I just think my river bet coulda been a little smaller, say 2.5x or around $1.40.
I think this for 2 reasons.
1 - He woulda been more likely to call with second best if he did indeed have an overpair. 2 - Hmmm, come to think of it, I really can't think of a second reason.
About all I can really think of is, he's only calling my raise on the river if he has me beat logically, and then he isn't flatting, he's 3bet shoving which puts me in an awkward spot where I'm committed to call but likely beat. Imho I think a flat call would have been better on the river IMO.
Not if he has A8 A3 but still I agree flat calling the river would've been pretty good too. But sometimes you have to bet for value in this kind of spots, he could've tought it was a bluff and called with hands you're not even concidering possible... Float the flop, float the turn then raise the river, the way you played the hand you could've been trying to represent a set or that straight with J9 or actually have one of those... That would've been a very good play with air tough, pretty scary board with that river

At those limits the mix of total newbies, total idiots and players trying to build a bankroll up makes for some interesting hands. Usually when starting a new roll I like to start at NL10, where although loose there are fewer players doing absolutely insane calls, but be aware: it's a jungle out there!
