I had a discussion with some friends.experienced semi-professional and professional poker players. We were debating the major source of wins & income in poker. The two options were simple:
A) Poker-players make the most amount of money and wins from the stupidity and ineptitude of the competition they face, OR B) Poker-players make the most money and wins from their own sly traps and great plays.

Constant self study and improvement is #1 to being successful at anything in life really, be it poker or any other endeavors.
When it comes to poker, being better than the people you're playing is all it takes, aside from when you get cold-decked or you play on tilt. But a good player would never play on tilt, thus it's a moot point

Agreed. IMO the great poker players in the world have achieved the right mix of skill, patience, timing and luck. Getting to that point usually takes a lot of hands played, a deep understanding of the game and a very good ability to read your opponents.

Lol you do realise A = B right? It just depends on how you look at it. A is that you dominate or get your money in better in avg. aka outplaying the avg field in your stakes. B is that you can trap or own people in your field, by abusing moves or just playing your A game.
In the end its about dominating the players on your table.

I agree that poker is a game in which you need to dominate your opponent and frankly i think you can say that winning money is from one or another...
As always the right answer it's in the middle, i mean it's clear you need to have poker skills to make money but in the same time you also need to make a really good table selection
When the odds favour it...bet. When they don´t....fold.
Seriously, there are SO many factors involved in playing Poker, it´s all a matter of how many of them you can assimilate, or are ready to put time into learning. And mostly your personal capacities which allow you to do that. An endless discussion IMO.
Even statements saying you should multi-table as many tables as you can that allow you to play your A game is a contradiction in itself. Your A game is when you play only 1 table and miss absolutely nothing from what is going on at that table. And I mean NOTHING! Every second, every move, every hesitation, playing with the clock, etc. will give you information. Playing several tables does not allow you to do that per definition.
What I´m saying is that even that can be debated vigourously by many.
In the end, if everyone would know how to play a perfect game, both statistically and psychologically, only the mistakes will cost you in the long run, and a difference in varience from one player to the next over a lifetime.

A Good Strategy can help the poker player to grow up fastly on poker workld, but is not a "exactly science", You can Loose with a AA and can wiln with a 27 on hands..
The best way is keep your focus and never try to be a hero betting more that you can pay...
I watch a lot of "best players" in the world that win 10 milion in a year and bankrupt next year :/
