Moneybookers changes  0
I received another mail, this time it was from Moneybookers, telling they are going to change their name. I like a lot to work with them in terms of online payments, just hope they continue the protocols with all the same companies they have now. I believe so, and perhaps this new name can also bring more companies who admit this type of payment. The email didnt specify, but i think this doesnt bring any change at all in the actual payment process, not even for old users. BRM will continue to work with them with this new designation, right? What is your opinion about this change? Did they had bad image and are trying to change that? Or they want to cover a wider field of potencial new users? I thought it was nice the way it was, better than their first line competitors, so i just can’t figure it out: why now?

rumored reason for name change -

Moneybookers collected donations for WikiLeaks, the whistleblower website known for publishing secret documents. In August 2010, Moneybookers blocked funding for WikiLeaks (despite the fact that no court order has been issued), telling the site that their account had been closed "to comply with money laundering or other investigations conducted by government authorities." Further correspondence from Moneybookers stated: "Following recent publicity and the subsequently addition of the WikiLeaks entity to blacklists in Australia and watchlists in the USA, we have terminated the business relationship.'" WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange stated: "This is likely to cause a huge backlash against Moneybookers. Craven behaviour in relation to the US government is unlikely to be seen sympathetically."

but i like the new name skrill Cool

Seems daft to me. Moneybookers is a huge brand and changing a name can be dangerous. Can you imagine google or facebook changing their names? But I imagine services will be just the same and they won't lose any current users over it. I also think the name moneybookers is better and self-explanatory compared to skrill. Doesn't bother me though if they change it.

to be fair- i have no idea Shock i thought moneybookers was just fine- they worked hard, created reputation, and a good one for that matter...and now when brand is built someone decides to change the brand Confused really no logic behind that i think... Cool

I think it could potentially be to distance themselves as much as possible from the whole black Friday/Full Tilt fiasco. Moneybookers is/was a very prominent processor in the poker world, and they've likely gotten a lot of bad exposure as of late due to the recent transgressions in the poker world. I mean, weren't they the only payment processor that made an open statement regarding their dealings with Full Tilt, publicly stating they were cutting all ties with the company, even before the whole issue spiraled into the mess it is today.

As much as I understand their desire not to be any way associated with the scandal, it seemed at the time like a shitty thing to do. After all, I know for a fact Full Tilt wouldn't let you withdraw to a processor unless you had made a deposit using that processor first. It's a moot point now, but back then if Full Tilt had come back online, it would have caused extra grief for any players who had only made deposits with Moneybookers.

Or they could be changing their name due to the recent change in migratory patterns of the north american swallow.

Or global warming. Maybe Mr. Gore was on to something all along...

moneybookers announced the name change in nov last year, way before this poker trouble began.
and like i said before many ppl believe that its due to their trouble with wikileaks,
moneybookers had a partnership with wikileaks, wikileaks leaked all US govt secret documents and was in a lot of controversy. apparently moneybookers was also dragged into the issue and thought their brand name was tarnished, so thats why the name change. but just speculation Blink

I know that this way of payment is (or was, at least a few years ago) not very well accepted by some countries when the matter was to transfer from there to bank acounts, turning it to real money. I read somewhere that UK didnt trusted 100% on them, as they prefered one other e-wallet, because this other fullfilled all the rules of financial laws in the country. But i trust them 100%, as they never failed to me, and i already have made sucessfully trasnfers from there to my local bank acount. Just hope everything continues that well.

i had no problems with mb, transferred to them from bank, received back to bank, credit card, everything was quick, smooth and cheap comparing to other options...their reputation was really solid when comparing to their main peers, so really i see no reason to do a change...but what the hell, we'll live with that anyway Cool

Yep, this can be a reason. But in the past, i had never problems with mb. Only withdraws after BF from ft account are impossible (before ft lost the license), but this was not the problem from mb.
