It is wrong to say that poker is a game of luck, it is also wrong to say that poker is a game of skill, the truth is - its both in a 1:2 ration (33.3 % luck, 66.6% skill) , at least that is what i think.
That being said, going by the book all the time is nothing else than robotic play, which will eventually fail.
Also, having in mind THIS PARTICULAR GAME, as BeMyATMplz mentioned, in that PLACE where i was, i though the guy who shoved would have done that with any two cards, and he did just that.
BeMyATMplz's response to this thread was brilliant, and for that i thank you mate In all honesty, i wasn't really thinking about fold equity in that moment, but i was pretty confident that this guy didn't have anything, so 45 suited seemed as good as any card.
Why did i got to only 2.5 BB, well somebody was raising all the time, not once did i get the chance to shove from SB, and i surely wont shove from UTG with 28o.
Also, losing a two pair against a set when it mattered didn't help at all

good thing to have this sharp eye, so it wasn´t really bad and considering you were at the table in this situation and had to judge it and finally took it down -

As for the luck vs. skill discussion in poker,I've already made a few posts about this the amount of luck involved is always determined by your volume/samplesize. Even a really good player can have downswings of 1000 SNGs or something like that easily (amount of games depends on field size but lets say someone plays 18 player SNGs on stars..I've already had a streak of 1K games running breakeven, and I usually have 12% ROI in them). If you're in profit or something after just 100 SNGs it proves nothing. Every idiot would be able to do that if they get lucky enough. After 5K games you can get a reasonable idea of your winrate, everything lower is just an assumption (though the closer you get to the 5K games mark the more accurate your assumption is of course).
So what I wanna say is,over the longterm poker is just 100% skill, you really cant be unlucky forever, every human has the same amount of luck longterm based and there is no way to change this (except cheating)

Yeah, agreed.
As for luck itself, i was talking more about single matches, not overall.. Meaning, you get AA and get shoved by a donk, you call he gets a flush with 6Q.. That's just bad luck..
the fact is.. AA wins only 85% of times.. So i understand what you are saying
