Was playing a friendly game of poker with my gf, and her brothers last night. Small buyin, just for fun. Well her younger brother (18) was quite inebriated when we got headsup. He's a decent player but overly aggressive, and I routinely take him down, so I knew I was bound to win.
He had me covered by about 500 chips, when we both got it all in with AQ/AQ pre. Ended up chopping, but because he was sloppy drunk, he wasn't doing the count right, and I would have ended up short changed around 1/4 of the pot. Instead of listening to reason, and just taking a second to count a second time, he threw a fit, which caused my gf to just give him the money to shut him up.
Seriously, I HATE dealing with drunk idiots when playing poker, makes me appreciate online poker so much more. At least if they are drunk, I can just mute them. And they can't whine until they get the pot.

If you play Pot limit live you definitely appreciate online play.. Oh - and also those big multi-way allins, where there is about 5 separate pots.. There are always a few people who like to take control, but lack the necessary basic mathematical skills to do so.. Always fun, can't count to amount of times playing on the pub circuit the TD had to be called over to settle some dispute, that could easily be resolved by the table using basic arithmetic and reason!

At least with Casinopoker you get a proper dealer managing the pot, etc. As you say, there's generally at least one or two douchebags, but at least you don't have to worry about counting the pot every hand to make sure you're not getting screwed.

I rarely have the chance to play live with friends and actually i wish i could do it more. We never play and get drunk thou, i mean, there's the couple of beers or wine still its just enough to relax not to get wasted. Annoys me alot that kind of ppl that overdoes it and becomes an enhanced jerk then after ( i say "enhanced" coz in my experience,a person that is a jerk drunk usually is, even if somewhat disguised, a jerk sober). Better to stay at home and play online if thats what happens with ur gfs relatives there m8. At least online its ur choice who you have to put up with.

Hahaha yeah. Well, the badbeat of the night was, she got pissed off @ her brother because he was being an idiot, and me because I was arguing with him. End result, she was mad at the whole scenario, so I went to bed without getting any. I can handle losing at poker, but no nooky is the worst bad beat

Yeah, I've played with intoxicated, big headed, can't lose attitude drunks also who get mad once they've lost their cash. It's always your fault and you did the drinker wrong by donkin them or something. At least your GF has the sense to tame the situation before it ruins a friendship or family over a little $$.

I think that's sound advice. I think it's fine to play "for fun" but I think given the very nature of poker being a competitive sport involving real money, it's probably best just not to do it, given the fights it can cause. I think this was just a shining example of that. Mind you, we play quite often, and this is the first time this happened. I think the problem was, he was just stupid drunk, and drunk people can be hard to deal with, no matter what's involved. On the plus side, my girlfriend is talking to me again lol.

i personally cant play poker for fun..i just get bored and lose interest,if there is cash involved it tweaks my senses better and keeps me motivated...as for drunks, me and my friends have converted a barn and have a built in bar, we hold weekly tourneys with about 16- 20 of us,but with loads of people drunk, they start talking crap, then the dealing becomes prolonged, then arguments start.i dont like mixing drink with poker so i am normally sober so i'm keeping my eye on the timer and whinge about that.lol. so ive just started staying away as i dont think poker and drink mixes(unless i'm the 1 doing the drinking, which only happens on online poker sometimes, but never live poker) hope you won though
