Good question. Maybe because in many places, poker is known as a "dirty" game? Illegal many places, often combined with rooms full of smoke, beers and bad smelling guys.

Yeh, im with admin on this one. I think that more males are playing the game more than females therefore more of a chance that males will be playing professionally.

Yeah poker has now become a more respectfull game than it has been and it's now played under secure invirontment either online or in a casino. But it's not many decades since you should be ready for a fight if you got lucky and sucked a guy out. It is a very aggressive game which ofcourse appeals more to the testosterone part of humans. But now that the game is played in controlled invirontment im sure there will pop alot of girlies up.(there are allready a bunch)
You looked at the WTP show? oh mate, the minimum buy in for these events are 10k except for the WTP ladies night where it's indeed low buy in and of course full of ladies.

without trying to sounds sexistic ( or whatever you call it in english ) but i think poker is more of a male-game ! i think it's easier for men to hide their emotions, whereas women tend to live out when they feel something and that is a bad habit at pokertable ! and i think women aren't really into these kind of strategygames it is a more manly thing !
but the few female pokerpros show that their are exceptions from the rule ! just my 2 cents

The poker image is changing, that's for sure. TV Shows with celebrities playing, big tourneys and it's influence is just growing up. Soon it will not be a reason to few female players join to the game.

I think generally men are more aggressive than women which is a big + in poker perhaps because of the testosterone in our blood but it's also that testosterone that makes us men do stupid moves. So in my eyes if you teach a girl/woman the aggres that is needed to play top/elite poker perhaps she can become even better

men are more mathrmatically minded but arent women sposd to b more emotionally intelligent. they should be able to read face expressions and body language better than us.
i think men are better at logic but women have more common sense. Perhaps they are too smart to start gambling. more men play for sure but who loses the most money.

Posted by lomax: it's simple, POKER IS ALSO MATEMATICAL GAME...AND WEMWN DON'T LIKE IT. AT EXEMPLE MY GIRLFRIENDS DON'T LIKE POKER AND HATE WHEN I GO TO PLAY,
yeah good question i think that they play too smart and solid they don't like bluff just straight and forward poker, of course some of them play good but only some %)
Poker traditionally is a mans game. Men that play poker are looked at as higher class, rich people, with a cunning wit that intimidates most people. I think there are more guys playing poker because since poker has boomed there is a better chance to be that poker playing millionaire badass. The guys want that image more then the girls
There are some woman poker players that are brave enought to take on the men, i think some woman are threatend by the men. dunno why woman can be just as good. but poker use to be known as a mans thing,, but the woman are bringing it out.

i think that the reason is that there are more male poker players that female poker players but the 3% of the female players are quite good but women are biggest fishes
