...but here's one of those run of the mill hands that somebody re-raises on for some reason,...and most call,....but they all give it up to my modest bet on the river... Go figure...

Not to be called after such a modest bet is a mistake. No matter what i was holding i would have to call just because i was getting such good odds to do so. Basic maths needs to be applied in these circumstances

I thought I might take a stab at it with a fairly higher bet and hoped may have saw it as somewhat of a value bet because I might have had something...
Once there's a whole lotta checkin' goin' on by the time the river comes along,...it's usually worth taking a shot...with a decent bet to make it more believable...
