Well considering China has a bigger population than the US and is the only place to gamble legally in China it should bring in more gamblers. Especially from the China population itself.
Just checked out some pictures of Macau and it looks a nice place.

Vegas lost its unique position as the only place, where gambling was legal, and its spot in the middle of the desert is a serious problem in the long run. Why visit there, when you can have the same games in a costal town? For Asian players Macau is much easier to reach than Vegas, so comes as no surprise that it is numer one now.

Macau has always been mega has it not? But this is quite surprising in a way. Macau seems like a hardcore gambling hot spot, whereas Vegas is for your mixture of tourists and people wanting to get drunk and limit their loses to a few thou.
Plus that 50k limit on money out China will be a huge driver in those numbers.

well don't you think that the only real reason why Macau gaming industry is 7 times bigger than Las Vegas is only this: "...and many visit Macau in order to cash out casino chips in foreign currencies - to overcome limits on moving cash out of China (Bejing limits the amount of money Chinese can take out of the country to $50,000 per year) to invest and make purchases in, for example, Europe and the United States." without these restrictions i really doubt that Macau would be this big

Wow never heard about this place before.
I was planning to visit Las Vegas this year but I guess I will have to change my destination. What Phisix said is true. Considering that is the only place to legally gamble in China, it is reasonable that is 7 times bigger than Las Vegas.

Macau in asia was really a verry big gambling paradise. And the winnings are tax free and the laws are no so strictly like in the USA. The mega Citys in asia a rising up verry fast in the last years and the gambling industry there is one of the biggest in the world.

Coupled with China's expanding economy and emerging upper crust plus more foreign interest then it's easy to see how Macau is such a monster. However I'd still imagine that not a lot of social mobility exists for large chunks of China's population, so there's obviously lots of people coming from all over the joint i.e. other countries.
Macau must be a criminal haven all the same. Wonder what the crime rate is like?

It was clear that this would have going to happen really fast, even the high stakes tables at poker sites have tons of players from Macau.
Plus you need to take in consideration that China is right know the first economic power of the world so it was clear that this buisness will grow like wild fire there.
