yes indeed just as the dude in the story commented, this is a stupid law, it bans online poker and sports betting and maybe even porn, but all of this is still available offline, so what's the difference where i lose my money online or brick and mortar? oh and yeah it doesn't reall ban online gambling, it just bans legal online gambling...

Yes as pochuui say this changes nothing, people who play onlune will play online with the ban, they will hide their data and government will just lise the money, better leave as us and collect some little amount of tax, some us better than nothing at all

Well sad for Australian who wants to play online but nevertheless think the Australian government got all this wrong just look at the small countries like Gibraltar they make a lot of money thanks to the gambling business , you should think of building a model around it so the government wins and in the end the country will get out as a winner, anyway have fun you just encouraged illegal betting and all cheers peace out!

There was no doubt that they were gonna pass this law at the end.
And that workaround with the smartphones, i dont think it is going to last long time.
Another country that the online poker is out for good.
Win for the land based operators who had their hands into this Smile

If the senator says that the law is stupid then he must make all his efforts so that this stupid law was abolished .... I think exactly the same and do not understand why such laws are being adopted ... because they limit the freedom of people

This is really sad news not only for our fellow Australian forumites but for the entire online gaming community. The market will probably keep shrinking. How much longer will we be able to enjoy playing online? 10 more years?

Verry strong for player from Australia. The restrictly laws for online gaming as a little bit to much i think, because it was enough to control the gaming license with a serious institution. Off course, there are some unserious casinos, but the most of them are ok.

I cannot believe that online poker is being banned in Australia. It must have a huge market and, if players are of legal age, i cannot see why people are not being allowed to play

I cant believe what I reading!cant believe how they are stupid,to ban everything,to restrict people everything that they want to play, enjoy, poker, betting, casino!why the f... you care if people want to play and spend their own money?if they want to earn tax from this, just let big sites to open companies in australia, take tax from that and let people to do whatever they want!idiots Angry

So! You either ban it or you don't, not just allow, people to 'get around it'. It sounds like a half hearted piece of legislation that hasn't really been thought through and is not explained as to its reason. I think they need to go back to the drawing board to try and properly achieve what they are trying to achieve.

well i think that in order to properly achieve what you are trying to achieve, in the first place you have to know what the hell are you trying to achieve... then to define what is proper achievement and figure out what action must be undertaken in order for that action to materialize into concrete actions.

It's a big isolated continent in the middle of the ocean and it seems they pretty much wanting to remain a big and isolated continent for all eternity. Why not cut off the internet all together, not just the online poker part?

he,he,bowier1984 that would be best solution Big Smile !then people can live in peace,to go in nature,to go with friends out, they dont need internet or anything Tongue !but serious, this is so stupid and they can earn from this,if they have tax from gambling, but no,they want to shut down everything!why the hell they worry what people will do with their own money?!

There is no isolated area on this planet any more. And this is the case for way too long now.
Their politicians figured it is bets for them this way (moving easier the money from one pocket
to the other), so they acted like that.
At first i thought we were in a bad place with that new stupid legislation we got,
but i guess there are worst.
At least for now Smile

10 years is a pretty optimistic assumption .... the world is developing at such a fast pace that maybe in 10 years the onlan games will change so much that you can not even imagine it in the wildest dreams ... but I can not understand the meaning of the ban game online

they voted 46-6 so pretty overwhelming majority. although i dont know when this goes into effect as party still is operating?
there were already some states that had bans in place on sport betting before this bill anyway - so people always find a way just like in times of the prohibition and even now with drugs.

in the games that are only for this part of the world, maybe this will make the competition weaker so easier money Tongue Blink

I do not like all this politicians trying to put a abn on anything they wants, politicians must do what people want them to do, people put them in power so they must look in situations when people are saying that they are not liking the decision and try to think of something different

who the heck cares about australians, as long there is still german and canadian donks around ?
nah, seriously... it sucks when mother goverment threats his citizens like a child Thumbs Down
if this keep going on like that, we will see online poker on darknet or something and people like al capone gonna fill their pockets with gambling and alcohol, just like back the days when it was prohibited.
