Official: US Violated WTO Rules  0
In March of 2008, as a result of a complaint filed by the Remote Gambling Association (RGA), The European Commission launched an investigation into the operations and stance of the United States in its behavior and treatment to companies, players and members of Europe. The results are in.

The European Commission has found The United States in breach of World Trade Organisation (WTO) protocol in regards to online gambling.

Quoting from the European Commission’s website, “The report concludes that the US measures constitute an obstacle to trade that is inconsistent with WTO rules. As a result, WTO proceedings would be justified.”

The report continues, “There are serious adverse effects for the EU. They include revenue and stock market value lost by affected companies as a result of their absence from the US market and also the threat of serious sanctions hanging over them that affect their normal operations outside of the US.”

Although the report affirms that direct WTO proceedings against The US would be justified, they might not necessarily be the most helpful; the commission may instead elect to negotiate and forge an agreement directly with the Administration. In reality, WTO proceedings would be lengthy, difficult, expensive and detrimental to any speedy resolution.
