A friend and I have been very desperate to play poker.
Heres our story...
Well we had been aching to play poker, but had no deck to play with. It's late at night around 1-ish. I dont feel like going out to a store. So we end up making our own cards. We took some normal note book paper and would fold it into 4 equal squares, then cut the paper. After we had 52 seperate peices of cut paper, we started actually writting on the peices of paper soon to be our playing cards. Well after we made our cards we tried playing with them. As to my regret these cards didn't exactly work to much. Some of the problems were: 1. Cards would stick together 2. you could see what card you have because the marker showed up on the other side. 3. Since its just normal paper, and we had drinks on the table. The drinks would condensate on the table makeing it kinda wet. Which in turn ruiens the paper. 4. Shuffling was out of the question. 5. We would try to cheat marking the cards when other one wasnt looking.
So after a good 10 min playing with these cards we ended up throwing them away. And heading out to the store.

I had a similar story a long time ago... but the problem wasn´t the deck, it was because of poker chips.
Well, we all met up at a friends house, and the person who was in charge of bringing the chips did not, don´t quite remember the reason. Anyway, 6 guys looking at eachother saying "what do we do now".
Well.. to go straight to the point, we used matches.
For different values, we broke some matches in half, and we burned the head of some others, so in total we had 5 values!

Desperate times, desperate measures! I really enjoyed your story too! I guess it´s something every poker player can relate to! Good job!
Just to add to the story, originally we would only have 3 values, but one of us kept insisting, "let´s burn some of them, come on... let´s burn some." After a while everyone saw that 2 more values would be much better!

One time me and a buddy was so aching to play a game of cards, and called around to our mates to fix up a game. Everyone besides us was busy/drinking that night. So we ended up at my place playing hu flips for 5$ ish each.. Fun game tho, i lost a butload and won it all back on one big flip at the end.

Well the very first touch with "gambling" was some Black jack for matches too and then about a rly little coins we always all had full bags of this coins and always before playing some one went to the store exchanging like 10$ to 1c`s )) a lot of funny stories happens after this when u had to pay smth in store nexy day and in your wallet there was only 1cents and sellers rly dont like when u are giving them a lot )

Actually someone tried to literally burn part of their stack (burned matches had more value), but the smell was instant, so he received a couple of punches and slaps and didn´t do it again. It was a fun day, I took all the matches at the end and with the money from the buy-in a ordered pizzas and bought beer for everyone!

I have a story from my military service.
Me and 5 other guys found ourself lock up in a prison cell. Nothing to do but look at eachother and talk. After some time we took dehidrated cookies from, i dont know how its called elsewhere but its, 1 day conservated food package, it consist of cans of food chocolate, chewing gums and disinfective paper and dehidrated cookies which we used to call Rambo cookies, because they were packed in camouflage paper and you had to be a rambo to eat them, guys from Croatia knows what im talking about. So we took those cookies and chocolate from package and started drawing cards on those cookies. You can kill someone with those cookies if you ran out of ammo, either by making him to eat them or just throwing at him. After a while we were playing poker and we could stay there for entire service time if it were for us, ok it was little cold with no windows. We even played for chewing gums, ciggarettes were out of the question because you dont get them in package and we agreed no ciggs.

We all wanted the burned match to have a lower value, but then someone said, come on give "them" a break, let them feel valued at least once! It was in honor of those who have been oppressed for a long time! No racism involved, but it was the honest truth. LOL
I hope you guys understand it. So I guess it was kind of like a homage.

HE said it was in military trainning there is usual to be in prison for such a things like to not wake up in time or to be late somewhere and other minor things so thats why ... he wasnt in normal state prison ^_^

hahaah wow these stories are hardcore.. i dont have any poker related stories that really come close to this hahah.. i dont no if thats a good thing or a bad thing

I now HAVE to visit Croatia! Before I die, I definately must get drunk and play poker in a prison cell with my friends, in some different country than my own! I´m so glad I read that post!
