I deposited $20 on Poker Stars 5 days ago and I have been playing 10nl. My BR is now at $101. What would be a good time to move up to 25nl? Any suggestions from you poker pros out there?

You're playing NL10 (0.05/0.10). When you play the Short Stack Strategy, you buy-in for $2.00.
The next highest limit is NL25 (0.10/0.25). Your buy-in for this limit is $5.00.
In order to move from NL10 to NL25 you need 30 * $5.00 = $150.
If things don't go well for you, you'll have to move back down to NL10 when only 30 * $2.00 = $60 of the original $150 remain.
You have to know when to move up/down a limit if you ever want to make it to the top. If you lose too much at a limit and don't move down, you will go broke. If you stay at the same limit too long, although you could afford more, your career will stagnate. The next session will map out your path to the top.
Divide your bankroll by 300 BB I believe is one way, but I divide by 300BB + 150SB = 450, so for $90 you play at $0.10-$0.20. Others will probably do differently.
Hey Flangel, why do they say buy-in for 20BB, because if you got dealt nothing for the whole time, which I know is impossible, then you would never see 20BB because of the small blinds.

I would suggest learning Bankroll management first
If you have $100 the absolute maximum you should be playing is $5 NL
see this link with some good advice on it, kindly posted by tarock2009
I believe you should either play a big stack strategy or a small stack strategy with 20-25 buyins at the new level, then move back down after a 5 buyin loss.
Others have slight variations on this theme but rarely deviate too much from this unless you're playing heads up or omaha.
Maybe start buying in for the full $10. Playing deeper will improve your game and if you're a winning player you will make the $500 a bit faster.

Thanks DELLBO99! I am just trying to build a little BR. $5 nl is really out of my league right now, but hopefully in the future I will be there. Thanks for the thread too!!!
------------ That makes sense, but if a DONKEY is around sometimes it costs you, too. But I truly understand where you're coming from and that is just how poker goes. Thanks again all for the advice. I think I woke some people up with this thread!

buying in for 20BBs is short stack strategy where you basically shove with any pair and hope to get a call and win.
Losses are reduced if you come up against a monster, but on the other hand if you hit a monster you win far less too.
I would recommend buying in everytime with 100 BBS and making sure you have enough for at least 20 buy ins. Therefore your bankroll should have at least 2000 of the Big Blinds at the level you want to play in. THat should be ample to get you going as long as you play sensibly
example :=
01/02 cent NL - BR required = $40 ( 100 x $0.02 x 20 )
5/10 cent NL - BR required = $200 (100 x $0.10 x 20 )
50c/$1 NL - BR required = $2000 ( 100 x $1 x 20 )
$5/$10 NL = BR required = $20,000 ( 100 x $10 x 20 )
This is the ABSOLUTE minimum you should have for each limit you wish to play at. If you dont have that amount in your bankroll then steer clear of those iimits because rest assured, you will go broke.

Posted by MuckThisWay: Thanks for all of the advice and I WILL come back with the $500 and ask some more questions!!! Wish me luck in my endeavors!!
I think you come back and cry!! You have to play NL5 with your 101$. Be happy that you grow up, but go down to NL5 till you have 200-250$ then you can move to NL10...
