For many months rumors have been circulating that the Borgata Winter Open wasn't going to be a part of the second half of the World Poker Tour season VII. This has now also been confirmed in a press update from WPT.

Borgata usually have 2 tournaments on the WPT, one in September and one in January. The tournament that was played in September wasn't doing so well this year compared to 2007 because of fewer participants than expected, even though the high guarantee of $5 million and the $50.000 overlay that was added to attract more players. Even though the 2 WPT tournaments in Borgata were two of the most popular tournaments with most participants and the most satisfied players on the WPT tour, it has now been removed for unknown reasons and it's also unknown if it ever will be back on the World Poker Tour in the future.

The real question is: Will the World Poker Tour be back? This enterprise seems to be in serious trouble. The closing down of its online poker room was another sign of the problems there.
