Darvin Moon's crazy move on the final table

Darvin Moon, the working class hero and second-place finisher in the WSOP 2009 Main Event, was a few days ago in a radio interview taking about his game and mistakes he had made on the final table. One of their main questions Dennis Phillips got, was the one about when he folded King-Queen to Steven Begleiter's Ace-Queen and then went to his wife to tell her that he had pocket queens. After doing this, most people were thinking, "What in the world is he doing?" He knew that people will see and hear what he's doing since the final table was being broadcasted. However, according to Moon, it was intentionally done and part of his big plan.

"No, that wasn't a mistake. I felt that the people backstage were listening on those mics and sending stuff out to the coaches. She'll tell you, before we come down there, that was the plan. Because I was miked when we went down to nine players and I felt that there was some stuff being sent around. I don't trust anybody when I'm playing cards."

Darvin Moon seems to be a decent player, concentrating only on his gameplay and not letting anyone disturb his play-style.

i believe this is truth, and i would have made the same kind of strategy. It's pretty sure that lots of coaches were gathering informations during the brodcast so they can help their own players on their opponents moves.

if this is true, then the guy really has his strategy on a top level. I wonder how he would have played things if it was for the same money but in an instance where he knew coaches would be nowhere near...

For me this guy is not really a decent player since he plays this final table this simple stupid way : reraise with any hand when someone raised, then call every all in, even with a marginal hands and during the call says "lets do this again -_-"
Not really happy to see him bust Phil Ivey with AQ vs Ivey's AK...
but well its poker

with millions at play and a lot of sside bets I think he did the right thing, corruption is rife in poker. Enjoy your money Moon, glad to see you took my tips LOL.

A timber man trying to chop down his opponent with a sharp axe.

Why the hell he shouldnt do that? Its like football coach used formation 4 3 3 although in prematch press conference he said he will go with 4 4 2

Yeah right Darvin, what bs! He told his misses KQ and she said queens? and he said yeah.

You want people to think you folded queens in that spot, but will happily push with a4o all-in with air otf, blatantly.

Did you hear his interview? Pre FT he went hunting in the woods with his mates, but instead of hunting he found a nice spot on his own, layed down and thought about cards!!!

He's a crack head lucker Smile

Yeah, I just saw it. Don't know what to think. I was like: What are these people, retards... Until I thought: They are a hell lot better than you, so I suppose there was some sort of plan, but I can't relly put my finger on it. GG, anyway.

Sometimes there is a thin line between a donkmove and worlds greatest move. If a bluff holds up its sometimes a master move, when the same bluff got called its a donk-move?
When Moon does crazy play and got away with it its a ''donk got lucky'', when Ivey does the same move and it holds up its the ''masters hand''............

i think darvin played the series well ,but some of his play at the final could have been better but he still hit some good cash

Yeah, your on to something there. It feels like it, you watch a hand that feels just like... stupid. But the commentator tells you it was a great play. And then... you make the same move yourself, get busted, and everybody at the table calls you a fish... Been there done that, doing it tomorriw... Tongue

I think moon is a very agressive player with really much luck.

He seems like a very nice guy...but not a very good pokerplayer.

Fare enough if he had a game plan good luck to him.
I was lead to belive misdirection is a very good tool to use in poker. Misdirection and bluffing have to be a fine art and work in harmoney to produce a different game to the one unfolding infront of you.
You can quote me on that.lol

i realy liked it when he went alin with AQ against the Apel eating arrogant Ivy. Big Smile Big Smile Big Smile
this Ivy is maybe the best player but i realy dont like his attitud. I think he is a bit to cocky Big Smile
 SuperNoob17/12/2009 22:10:21 GMT
i don't get his big plan, its ok not to trust anyone but his play at final table was surely average at times.
it would be better to concentrate on your game and not make mistakes rather than pulling off some stunts
