Historic poker tournament in Stockholm, Sweden

Last week, after a 2 year long court case in Sweden, Texas Hold'em tournaments was finally classed as a skill game, like chess and backgammon. This means that any poker club and poker site in Sweden now can organize poker tournaments with real money buy-in. The first legal poker tournament was organized last week in Stockholm and celebs like Dregen, Peter Swartling, Dilba and many more took part in this historic poker tournament.

The tournament was organized in a recording breaking time as the court gave a go ahead only a week ago for any poker club and poker site to organize Texas Hold'em tournaments with real money buy-in. Even though the tournament was put together with such a short notice, around 100 players took part, many of them celebs. To mention a few, "Dregen" from the world famous bands Backyard Babies and The Hellacopters. Peter Swartling, a well known producer that has been working with some of the world's biggest artist and also been a part of the Swedish IDOL jury.

Swedish are lucky people! When will portuguese politicians look at swedish way of making laws? I think i'll starting looking for a job there, than i can ocupy my free time with my favourite hobby. The only problem is to learn their language...

I'm still not sure yet if it's a skill game or not. But a little luck involves in every game, so I will just agree it is a skill game.

No doubt Hold'em is a game of skill...Nice to see the courts realize that..But it's still gambling so I guess you can go either way.

Danish politicians has also been talking about making low BI(~60$) tournament poker a skill game the Swedish ruling may push them in the right direction. Just sad they still see cash game as hasard, but it's a start Smile

In my country paker became a sport skill game only 2 years ago. No affect, actually.

Awesome! Wish we (portuguese) would head the same direction. Sad
No doubt about poker being a skill game IMHO. Some luck is indeed involved, but without great skill, one will easily go into the red in the short term.
