In the four-year history of the Asia Pacific Poker Tour only 1 female had made it to a final table (Liz Lieu 7th place at the APPT Macau Main Event in Season 1) until yesterday when the PokerStars qualifier Young-shin Im from Korea reached the APPT Cebu Main Event final table 3rd in chips. She had already made a name for herself in the poker world as she had become the second women ever to reach an APPT final table. However, she was of course aiming to win the whole tournament. And so she did......
About two hours into the heads-up match against Fabiano Michael from Australia, she got tired of him moving all in almost every single hand, so she decided to take a risk and call with A6. Luckily her opponent "only" had pocket 5's, so basically she had 6 outs - but even if she didn't win the pot she would still have a decent stack left.
Fortunately, for Im, an ace landed on the flop, the turn and the river was to no help for her opponent. It was finally over! Young-shin Im took down the first prize of 97,591 Euro and also she had become part of poker history as she was the first women to win an APPT Main Event. Now, we can only hope that Young-shin Im gets a lot of attention from the media and also a sponsorship from some poker room. Let's hope that Im's success will inspire lots of women around the globe to start playing poker.
