In Doyle Brunson's latest blog, Live as if you were going to die tomorrow, learn as if you were going to live forever, he shares some really sad news with his fans and the rest of the poker world - his sister took her own life last month.

He describes his only sister, Lavada Hale, as a very strong person all her life, but when she recently lost her eyesight due to glaucoma and related eye diseases, she became very depressed and decided to end her life as she couldn't stand the thought of living the rest of her life in darkness.

"It is hard to get back in the swing of thing after the death of my only sister, Lavada Hale. Lavada was 79 years old and had lost her eyesight due to glaucoma and related eye diseases. She couldn't stand the thought of living out her years in a world of darkness so she took her own life. She was such a strong person all her life and I never dreamed she was so depressed she could commit suicide. It was a tough time for our family but we are a tough family and I was proud of everybody the way they handled this tragedy. Thanks to everyone for their calls, tweets and prayers. RIP Lavada," writes Doyle Brunson in his blog.

There is a little word of warning that must go with this article: get your eyes checked regularly and make sure you are getting an eye pressure test and picture of your retinal nerve. I was recently diagnosed with high pressure inside my eyes, which can be caused by several things (in my case myopia). Anyways, all cases of glaucoma start with high eye pressure, and left untreated damages your retinal nerve. Luckily we seem to have caught it in time, and with eye drops (every night for the rest of my life) I should be able to control it and prevent damage. It is easy to take your visioin for granted, especially if you don't wear glasses, however loss of vision and blindness is a life changing event, get your eyes checked regularly. RIP Lavada.

Very bad news. I really appreciate Doyle Brunson and his family. I know how he suffered to reach what he has now. I hope that fact doesn't affect his mood and his poker as well. Rip
