Top 10 poker players in the world

Tags: top 10 poker players.
Posted on 10 February 2010 by "T".

Every month, the sports site ESPN writes a column on their website called "The Nuts" where they list who they think the top 10 poker players in the world are at the moment. If one look back at previous months of "The Nuts", it stands clear that Phil Ivey is the big favorite (maybe not such a big surprise to anyone?). Anyhow, here are the top 10 players+comments for February 2010

1. Phil Ivey
He's now on top of the all-time tournament earnings leaderboard. Get comfy, Phil; you're going to be there for a while.

2. Patrik Antonius
Still one of the best players in the game and a constant fixture in the largest cash games in the world.

3. Jason Mercier
His drive to win and his willingness to go any- and everywhere and play any- and everything continues to serve him well.

4. Daniel Negreanu
Although we don't see him in the middle of the huge cash games much, he still has proved himself in all forms of poker.

5. Eric Baldwin
After winning Card Player's Player of the Year, Baldwin took a couple of weeks away from the felt and is ready to hit the circuit starting at the LAPC

6. Yevgeniy Timoshenko
He is a player who can travel the circuit full time and still find time to be a profitable online player.

7. Daniel Alaei
Two titles in 2009 and a threat in no-limit cash games, Alaei might be the most underappreciated player on this list.

8. Tom Dwan
He's unproven in terms of the long haul, but his raw poker ability is uncanny

9. Bertrand Grospellier
Just when I'm about to take him out of my top 10, he makes another final table.

10. Jeffrey Lisandro

As people were starting to push the memory of his triple bracelet performance to the back of their minds, he reminded them that he's still among the best stud tournament players in the world.

First place O.K
Second place : O.K
Third shoud be Daniel Negreanu . Thats My opinion... Good Luck at the Tables.

He won San Remo EPT at 2008 and a WSOP bracelet in 2009. I remember watching him on TV how made an incredible call against Koskas: Juan Pastor (PokerStars pro), who is the commentarist in Spain, was feeling a poker orgasm ... See video if you want: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cea3tAZx8x0

 broken_wingz14/02/2010 10:10:40 GMT
My top 10...not based on anything other than that they "click" for me.

#4 to #10 (no order)

Patrik Antonius (favorite to watch online mostly)
Phil Ivey (has to be there)
David Benyamine (seems fun, enjoys the game...something most of us forget to do)
Daniel Negreanu (lucky guesses, good range reading, Canadian)
Antonio Esfandiari (chill dude, good deep stack tourney player, no surprise he was like 28th in WSOPME 09, shoulda FT'd imo)
Phil Laak (hilarious)

Top 3

3. Brad Booth (position in cement for committing blasphemy + being Canadian)
2. Phil Hellmuth (the guy you love to hate, always makes it interesting whether he wins, loses, or breaks even)
1. Chris Ferguson (humble, respectful, classy dude that you really can't dislike)

I guess my list is too much personality-based. Ivey, Hellmuth, Doyle, Chan, Hansen, ooh Beth Shak Heart
 rattacha14/02/2010 10:27:02 GMT
Well, they are all great, but i'm wondering where is Chris?
 Airas10/03/2010 12:11:59 GMT
Patrick Antonius is the greates.
 lecorbu10/03/2010 12:57:48 GMT
must be only the best of the month, because phil helmut not listed, Phil Ivey should have two more arms to put on bracelets Hellmut!!
