A total 243 players went to Hyatt Hotel yesterday and participated in Day 1a of the EPT Berlin main event. After 10 one-hour levels had been completed only 110 had chips left. The one who finished the day with the largest stack (201,600) is the Russian pro Vladimir Geshkenbein.

Geshkenbein might not be a familiar name to many, but he's well-known and respected among many tournament players for his EPT Snowfest win last year and the APPT Macau High Roller Event and PKR Heads Up Grand Slam London wins back in 2009. Besides that, he was the first player ever to withdraw $1,000,000 from the poker site PKR - the site that has sponsored him since December 10th, 2009.

In a few hours, the poker room at Hyatt Hotel in Berlin will be filled with players again as Day 1b is about to start. A large field of players are expected today and lots of pros. We will return with an update as soon as Day 1b is completed.

These guys really must have strategy and strength to handle with one hours levels. At the rhythm I am used to play online, and with my lack of experience in live events, I would definitely be an easy target for sharks. If the game didn’t ruin me, the time would. I think I would get tired after three hours, now thinking about 10 hours in the first day, and reaching the second for another marathon… guess I am too rookie to dream with this.

Let an amateur win this big tournament, I am bored to see the same poker players win the trophies, let a newcomer win this.

Which Portuguese players are there? Zumi from Stars? Whoelse? Hope they reach far. It will be a date to remember the day a Portuguese players wins an event like EPT. Zumi is, in my opinion the most prepared to reach something like that, but nowadays there are so many online players with good skills that the new Portuguese star can appear from anywhere.
