Yesterday World Series of Poker announced on its website that a new partnership has been made with Crown Melbourne, Australia's leading integrated entrainment resort where Aussie Millions is played, to bring the WSOP series to the region.

World Series of Poker Asia -Pacific (WSOP APAC) will take place April 4-15, 2013, at Crown Melbourne and feature 5 WSOP gold bracelet events.

"Our goal is to establish the worldwide grand slam of poker and use our platform to elevate the game through a series of major championships," said WSOP Executive Director Ty Stewart. "With WSOP Las Vegas growing annually and WSOP Europe poised for long-term success after five years, the time is right to turn our attention to the dynamic poker scene in Asia and Australia. Given Crown's success with the ‘Aussie Millions Poker Championship', we couldn't ask for a better partner than Crown to establish the Asia-Pacific's definitive poker festival."

"This exciting partnership brings together two industry leaders, and two strong brands, to create a premier poker event in this region," said Crown Melbourne's Chief Executive Officer, Greg Hawkins. "Our agreement firmly aligns with our objective of attracting the very best local and international players, all vying for a coveted WSOP bracelet. We are incredibly proud of what we have achieved with the Aussie Millions and look forward to featuring WSOP Asia Pacific on our poker calendar in April 2013."

Nice news for Australia and our fellow mobster Jessthehuman! Hey, if you win me in the BRM HU Championship you can think of trying to entering some of the action of WSOP, it will be a good start to get you ready for the thrill of playing in the WSOP. Australia deserves this type of event a long time ago, it’s strange thinking about why only now and not before to bring this to the land of Kangaroos!

I actually live quite close to Crown - though I rarely go (these days). It is good news I suppose for the Aussie Poker scene - although, we haven't been without either; the Aussie Millions has been a pretty big event too.

You said you used to go to Crown but you don’t go often anymore these days, is it because of lack of time or do you have other nice places to play at also as near as Crown? I am not trying to study you before our HU battle. I am just asking because I live at 45 km from a little casino, with not many action related to poker, which is the nearest one, and I think that if I had some closer where the poker action is in Portugal(like Espinho or Vilamora) I would go there a lot – not for playing, most of times (my account does not allow me to that), but surely because I would have some friends there in the action that I could go watch and try to learn something with them.

That is great news, that WSOP is expanding their poker brand to the rest of the world, they need to expand in Latin America also, they are a lot of poker players from that region.
