Despite starting with the smallest stack on the 7th day of play, Jared Mahoney managed to overcome his 5 opponents on the WPT Montreal Main Event final table (lasted for nearly 10 hours) to claim his first WPT title and $433,410 CAD, by far the biggest cash of his career!
After Rainer Kempe busted in third place, Mahoney played heads-up against Darryll Fish who began the final table in second place. Mahoney and Fish were nearly even in chips and they took turns at holding the chip lead over the next levels of play.
In the final hand, with the blinds of 250k/500k and a 50k ante, Mahoney raised to 1 million and Fish shoved his remaining chips. Mahoney snap-called with AK, Fish turned over A2. Fish needed some help from the poker gods to stay alive, but the board ran out A8765 to send him packing in second place for $303,343 CAD.
Mahoney received a WPT trophy, $433,410 CAD in prize money, and a US$15,400 seat in the season-ending WPT Tournament of Champions!
