Jason Mercier Wins Eight Game Mix Tourney

It's always nice to see poker's biggest stars playing small buy-in tournaments. On Monday, Team PokerStars Pro Jason Mercier, 2010 WSOP Main Event winner Jonathan Duhamel, Brian Hastings (best known for winning $4.18 million against Viktor "Isildur1" Blom in single HU cash game session on FTP back in 2009) and another 12 players participated in the $2,200 Eight Game Mix event (single re-entry) at the 2015 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown.

The first day ended with just six players remaining. After some time of play on the second day, Jason Mercier, Ben Yogel and Marcello Costa were on the money bubble. At this point, Mercier shifted gears by putting lots of pressure on his opponents, who eventually decided to work out a deal to chop the 2nd place prize of $12,000 - leaving the first-place prize of $18,000 all to Mercier alone.

"It was an impressive run across all eight variants of the game and Mercier proved once again he is among the best poker players in the world. He picked up his cash along with the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown trophy and custom, framed print from IMPDI," ‘ALCANTHANG' reported on the event's official website.

Good to see Jason Mercier back to winning ways,a few years ago he was one of the better poker players and I thought he would do big things on the live scene.
He had lots of final tables and won plenty of money but not many tournament wins in the last few years, though with close to $14 million in live winnings I am sure he is quite happy with his poker playing.

It maybe would have been really nice to have seen Jason sign up to the BRM Easter 8 game Home Game last weekend. I doubt he would have been able to have won though given the high standard of play that was going on, but it would have been nice!

mmmmm maybe he was there but as an observer, he needed to learn some pro moves from the degenerated disciplined poker players we are before tackling that tournament and indeed won it so I hope he come here in the forum and post his gratitude to us.

I love it when they say it was a small buy-in tournament, $2,200 is not small in my world!!! Great to see Jason Mercier winning again because he is a top top player, congrats to all who cashed

let me get this
so only the last two gets in the money
and when there was three left
the two players decide to split the 2nd place prize
i mean loool
so jason gets the 1st prize without even needed to play heads up
there is one explanation they really want the money
because no pro poker player would made this deal
anyway jason is good player , he makes great reads
hope to see him in bigger poker tournaments

I understand english, but not being a native speaker makes have some difficulties with some expressions, every now and then. What does he mean with "under my belt"? Was he sponsoring his own game, is that it? If so, that means he's already betting a lot alone on himself, $2,200 is money. Ok, i know, i just read he got $4M in one session to Blom, but, hey, that game may have been under someonelse's "belt".

In this news see this kind of things, is not good for the game, shows that this players wont play just for the money and not the prestige of win a tournament.
For Jason Mercier is a good thing, because he win the money that the others don't wont and get the title, another one to his trofey categorie on his room.

A long time that i didn't see Jason win a tournament, GG for him.

Yup. And they still managed to 'deal down' this one too. Effin pros - always want the money in the bank.

It's an expression, meaning he has achieved something:

Funny thing though I can honestly say that until now I was under the assumption this idiom is totally boxing related because they used to have championship belts there, I would have never guessed right that it has more to do with food than sports achievements. LOL
