The first event of the 2017 Aussie Millions saw Melbourne's Robert Raymond best a field of 1,565 entries to grab the title and AUD$320,830 in prize money. When the final table was down to four handed-play, Raymond only had 1.64 million in chips and was the short stack against against Qiang Fu (3.7 million), Alex Lynskey (4.95 million), and Michael Addamo (5.4 million).
Raymond refused to give up, though. He fought hard and well to build a healthy stack. Eventually, he made it to heads-up and defeated New Zealand's Qiang Fu to lay hands on the title and the biggest payday of his poker career! In total, 153 players cashed in this AUD$1,500 buy-in event, which had a prize pool of AUD$1,604,125.
