Thanks to two wins, four cashes, and more than $2.7 million in overall earnings have made it possible for Steffen Sontheimer of Germany to finally obtain the Poker Masters Purple JacketTM.
The first ever Poker Masters at the Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas was made up of four $50,000 buy-in tournaments, with a $100,000 freeze out finale. Steffen ‘Goose' Sontheimer reached the final table on four of these events, and dominated two to earn a total of $2,733,000 in accumulated winnings, along with The Poker Masters Purple JacketTM. Take note, the only one tournament he didn't win any cash, it turned out that he was eliminated on the bubble in 8th place.
The exciting finale of the inaugural Poker Masters, Event #5 $100,000 Buy-in No-limit Hold'em, attracted 36 entrants, and after a grueling 3 days, Sontheimer knocked off fellow German Christian Christner in a heads-up match to seize the top prize of $1,512,000.
Here are Sontheimer's stats on the first four Poker Masters $50,000 buy-in tournaments:
Event #1 - 4th place for $306,000
Event #2 - 1st place for $900,000
Event #3 - 8th place, bubbled
Event #4 - 5th place for $117,000
Just looking at his stats above, this goes to show that Sontheimer played against some of the best poker players across the globe, and astonishingly his only slip-up was when he finished 8th. Still, he technically made it to all five Poker Masters tables. As of now, he has a total of 31 cashes since 2015, and 18 of those have come from high-roller events.
Before Poker Masters, Sontheimer had $3,551,390 in overall tournament earnings. Remarkably, his previous best score of $1,223,264 came when he placed 2nd in May's ARIA $100,000 Super High Roller 19, with Christian Christner bagging the top spot.
