With the 2023 WSOP currently ongoing, the WSOP has announced on Thursday, June 22, the top finalists eligible for the 2023 Poker Hall of Fame. Just one or two will be inducted.
The list of 10 poker players was created after a two-week process of public nomination and a vetting of these nominations by the Poker Hall of Fame Governing Council. The decision now falls in the hands of 32 living members who will allocate a ballot of ten total points to determine who gets inducted.
The finalists are as follows:
- Bill Smith
- Brian Rast
- Isai Scheinberg
- Jeremy Ausmus
- Josh Arieh
- Kathy Liebert
- Lon McEachren
- Matt Savage
- Mike Matusow
- Norman Chad
- Ted Forrest
The age requirement for being eligible for the Poker Hall of Fame is 40 years and above. Also, other criteria state that the player must have competed "against acknowledged top competition" and "for high stakes," while playing "consistently well" and "gaining the respect of peers." Additionally, the player must have "stood the test of time." For those in the industry but are not or were not professional poker players, they must have "contributed to the overall growth and success of the game of poker, with indelible positive and lasting results." As of now, there are 60 people who have met those requirements.
All living Poker Hall of Fame members are invited to freeroll into this year's WSOP Event No. 86: $1,979 Poker Hall of Fame Bounty No-Limit Hold'em tournament on Thursday, July 13, with the buy-in priced in honor of the Hall of Fame's founding year. This event will be open to all players. Each participating Hall of Famer will have a bounty corresponding to the year they were inducted into poker's most exclusive club.
The 2023 Poker Hall of Fame inductee will be announced during the event, along with the unveiling of the inductee's Hall of Fame picture at the new WSOP Poker Room inside Horseshoe Las Vegas.
