I am trying to understand it good.... Gimmie sec... you mean you want people to pay 5 points just for using thumb up/down? You know most people love their points etc so nearly noone will give the thumbs now at all. Anyway if some post would be really bad and offensive they would also consider ... i let it for someone else i don't want to waste points... So thumbs will start to be useless for sure (and now they are rarely used).
I think it would be better if you take 10+ points or something from the people who rate others for fun. There should be reporting thread maybe where people who are angry they got thumb down without good reason could write in it about. Then people / admin could decide if that post should get the thumb down and if not - 10 points from the user who gave.

That's exactly what I'm afraid of. Only few people will use thumbs up/down if it will cost points.
