Well I voted top one,( and no not for points either), as I think on a daily basis there is so much "crap" floating around that we never hear about,( or if we do it is usually to late for some), and I don't panic about it. Personal hygiene, eat properly washend and cooked food, exercise and live your life to the fullest. Drink, smoke ,have sex, play poker and be merry. Tongue We all live and die but I want to have no regrets or live in a plastic bag. Blink

Although my country still far from the infected country, but seeing the news getting serious day by day, i guess this virus may already outbreaks in many country, just we haven't notices yet. I am worry for the future.

well I don't suppose many people will be too concerned at the moment, but I think they should be.

Over 100 people have died and it has already been deemed as uncontainable. Different Flu strains spread oround the world like tidal waves across the globe.

If Swine flu is as contagious as regular flu then many thousands could die as a result of this outbreak and the everyone could soon be suffering it effects ( either directly or indirectly )

The bodies that report this kind of story and the ministers that make comment on it may well be taking a line of "lets report it but not panic everyone"

Reports say the UK has placed an order for 32 million face masks - someone must be worried about it.

it is very hard to have an certain oppinion with the overreacting media suppliing us with information. in general i think it is just a matter of time till a new really bad virus will appear. maybe that is one, maybe it is indeed just overreacted about.

i am however worried. =o

I look at life as "you never know". for instance i could be sitting here typing and my computer could blow up in my face due to a huge power surge brought on by visiting aliens from mars!

I am not trying to make lite of the tragedies that are happening with this nor any others, but i think when people get in a frenzy then things get worse.

On another note on this subject, i just seen on CNN ,( just flicking around and stopped there even though I am not fond of that channell), and now to add to this some are saying that this has been started by the US gov't , as the US gov't is "pissed" about the NAFTA they signed oooo so long ago with Mexico and Canada and being that many jobs and companies left the US and Canada to go to Mexico with cheaper labour....... Well i am sure you get the picture.

As the plot thickens.

I think the media (for sure, maybe also governments?) are over reacting. But, that might also be a good thing - better to over reach than to be too laid back about it and get caught offguard when it does strike bigtime. So, just go on over reacting and get it killed asap, like the bird thingy that went crazy for a while but now you almost never hear about it.

I think it's just a fear factor. Take the placebo effect, for example. When doctors doing studies give patients a sugar pill (called a placebo, that has no real effect whatsoever) and tell them it is really a type of medication that will have such and such an effect, studies show that the patients start feeling the positive results of what the actual medication would inhibit. They can't formally explain it...the closest theory they can come to is that the human mind, when it believes something wholeheartedly right-down-to-the-core, then that effect manifests in their bodies. Logically speaking the same could happen vice-versa, right? If people worry and worry and worry "oh, swine flu, swine flu, I'm gonna get it, oh I'm so worried", then if you do happen to come in contact with it you'll for sure get sick! Anyone who just dismisses it and carrys on with their daily lives will be A-ok! Food for thought Big Smile

i voted for pandemic about to happen, i dont think this strain will be devastating but it will kill hundreds at least, probably thousands in poorer countrys, the clock is ticking and one day in the near future i fear a much more dangerous strain will emerge and kill millions, its just a matter of time IMO. Sad this strain does scare me though with 2 young children to worry about.

sorry, thats rubbish, even if you get one of the common flu"s no placibo effect will help you, a lot of people who get a bad cold say they have the flu, if you have the flu you"ll be sick as a dog for a week and every muscle in your body will acke, you"ll have a very high fever, the runs, and generally feel like death warmed up and you wont be able to get out of bed for long, and if you front for work within a week then you didnt have the flu, just a cold, most people get a true flu 2/3 times in a lifetime, and thats just a common flu, if you get one of the more dangerous strains without medication it could kill you. even in your prime, Blink placibos can help people with certain ailments in the short term, but certainly not with any illness that causes fever.

People that drink a lot get a worse defence against diseases Blink

The media ALWAYS have to have something frightening to write about , and when the economic crisis has been worn out they start to write about swine flu ... but 5/6 on the pandemic scale is a little frightening thou Confused

Finally this comes up! Now this REALLY pisses me off Aww crap! Pandemic? Sure.....Dangerous to us in this cosy little part of the world (Scandinavia)? Not in the least! Actually...most european countries have nothing to worry about unless your're old or have a chronic disease that weakens your immune system. Now....what really pisses me off is the way western media talks about how many (insert your western country here) will die and hardly mentions the consequenses for 3rd world countries who can't afford proper healthcare and medicine.

I would be worried if I lived in a 3rd world country and I think that countries like my own should grow up, stop the western media hysteria and help out those who need it. The media needs to sell and will blow this out of proportion, but our governments should reach out to those who really need it - in this case first and foremost Mexico. Those affected in for instance Norway probably would die anyway if they catch pneumonia because of their predicament so we seriously need to grow up and help those who need it.

The only worrying thing about this is that we DON'T help those in need and give this virus a chance to mutate. Now that would be a grim scenario! 28 Days Later anyone? Nah...probably not but you never know.

On the other hand....if this results in thousands of desperate and worried russians trying to make a quick buck by playing poker (especially on Cake) - I'm happy! Blink

Nothing to worry about. I agree with Admin. Media are only overreacting. That's how they get money from. If there were no tragedies, ephidemics, wars etc. They would have got broke within a week. Who likes to hear about the good things. Everyone is just looking forward to see what bad has happened today so that they can feel happy it didn't happen to them. Angry

It seems that the virus spreading now is very dangerous to healthy young people.
It's reported from Mexico that the virus dos not affect the old and weak in the first place, so this really seperates it from other flu varieties.

But in Europe and USA there are a lot of anti-viral medications on stock ( will last for about 20% of the population ). Since it seems that Tamiflu and other meds can help fight this virus it is not very likely that we will see many peopole dying in the richer parts of the world with good health care.

Just imagine how good for the nature this finacial crisis is , eg less travel/flight, people save money and use old stuff instead of buying new ... but do we read about those things in the newspaper ? NOPE! Blink

hmm... but we actually had one case of swine flu in Finland now ... they shoved the person into quarantine quickly as hell Shock
