| wow just another point to add to the safety of playing online, let's summarize- hacked accounts, rigged software, super accounts, bots, collusion, disappearing poker rooms (with your bankrolls)- really great pot of wonders imho...is it worth to ship serious money online? |
| SuperNoob | 2/1/2012 2:06:26 PM GMT |
looks like they hacked his email account first and then used it to hack his pokerstars account, lucky they found out before he lost all of his money. and regarding the safety, i'm sure there are many many better targets for hackers than me |
| qzmag | 2/1/2012 2:14:21 PM GMT |
probably when he plays those 400 hands, probably it was playing with "himself" , that hacker , or more "players = hackers" and that's how they could stole his money from account, since i doubt could make a mistake to sent it to an bank account , so playing at a table and lose , takiing money at a table can't prove they are the hackers if it wasn't a tourney. |
| vlplastika | 2/1/2012 2:33:33 PM GMT |
| the horror. interesting they learned that the account hacked? person made the request to reinstate or found in the mail password? Black PR? I hope this will not happen again on PokerStars. |
| todd3311 | 2/1/2012 2:49:29 PM GMT |
| even if so he lost 46k and if its even his money and its most likely pokerstars money they will refund his account,,but it just goes to show that on line poker is really starting to be a really scazy place to play poker |

| Wow! Just a few days ago I decided to start a poll about security in poker sites here at BRM and now we read that a hacker broke into Negreanu’s Pokerstars account. If it was one of my accounts, he would just look into emptiness , but messing with someone like Negreanu he must have had his eyes blinking with that cashier. This hacker must be another kid who doesn’t have the idea of who he is messing with. Police will catch this guy fast. And Negreanu? He should have someone or a contract with a company that would take care of the security of his accounts for him. |
| BeMyATMplz | 2/1/2012 5:27:31 PM GMT |
If he did the most simple thing possible, requesting a RSA security token, this wouldnt have happened..wondering why not every pro just gets that lol. Everyone who has 4 figure sums online should have that token..it was the first thing I bought once I had enough FPPs for it |
| DankoMajstor | 2/1/2012 6:03:53 PM GMT |
AMAzinG... if i hack his account i transfer all money to BRM PEOPLE ))))) HAHAHAHAHAHAH |
| Keterin | 2/1/2012 6:19:49 PM GMT |
| oh man whose gonna give him back the 46k? |
| Macubaas | 2/1/2012 6:37:34 PM GMT |
I actually saw Daniels's original post on his twitter account yesterday...
It's very sad things like that happend and i think he didn't had other protections except a pass. I wonder if the hacker transfered some money to his account lol |

| This is one of the reasons the DOJ wants to regulate online poker here in the States. At least when they do change the laws here they will be set up to protect the player more, maybe we'll see more pro's move back to the states. that should help the live games. =) |

| We must be very careful with our password! imagine how much money does not turn on negreanu account! It is careful with passwords easy tip! |

This show one thing (or maybe two):
- Negreanu has simple password or/and - PokerStars have weak security and they must improve them.
And that's all...! It's so so hard to hack account which is well-secured Brute-force on account protected by AES 256 will take over 10 bilions(!) years |

It's his fault... He probably had a simple password. And anyways, that's pocket change for him |

Yeah, his password was probably something obvious like DAN or ACE or THINNINGHAIR The money is probably not the biggest deal in the world for him, but there is some personal information that the hacker would have had access to as well. Overall I think it serves as a reminder to people to manage their poker account security like they would their bank account security. Use different passwords for different sites, change the password from time to time, and if the site offers extra security features - use them! |
| FullO2s | 2/2/2012 6:49:25 PM GMT |
| It wouldn't have mattered how simplehard his password was. The hacker had hijacked his email account as well and (obvioulsy) knew his pokerstars username. A simple matter to click 'Forgot Password' and go through the email route of setting up a new password. |

I thought that everything was good secured,so that device what u can buy in the vip shop for people whit a lot off money in their account, chance's evry time the pasword, also that didnt help,so u see that everything whats made by human's can be hacked, like the euro bils of 50€ or 10€ the designer told the world that the euro is the best protected money in the world,2 day's after that there was already fake ,not evrything is solid as poker rooms say,if a pc genius want something he will find the answer and take what he want, and its pocketchance for him but who's paying the 46k? And if some thing dont belong to you,you have to stay away off anothers people money,or things, even if the hacker took 1 dollar,it's not you'rs..... |

If you take precausions that are out there, there is no chance of "pc genius" as you say, taking anything from you. About euro currency = I can also make a fake 20 euro bill that would most likely pass in exchanging office, but it doesnt matter euro isn't best protected money out there. It just means staff there didnt take all the precausions. It's same in pc security, most people download all kinds of garbage every day looking for that one thing they are interested in and after they find it are left with much more. There is a pretty distinct range of what can you do with your pc and it's far below peoples imagination. |

In the case of a player like you or me i agree but im sure Daniel needs more funds to play at the stakes that he does. |
| bdbs123 | 2/3/2012 2:32:37 AM GMT |
| So the hacker didn't try and take any money, but hacked his account to play and lose money. Strange risk for no reward... Surely there's more to it, maybe someone he lost the money to was in on it |
| Serpang | 2/3/2012 7:35:37 AM GMT |
Casino have to create 'Bank" to save our money , something like pending withdrawal, Our real account decrease and save to casino Bank. If we want to play again just click cancel withdraw.
Anyway I really can't understand why people let their lot of money at online casino. Cos they are so rich ? |

Ho boy, this is a real security matter, first thing first, some comments talk about Daniel account 46k was only pocket change.....Hey realy!!!!, the fact that he as money is nobody's business, he earned it, second, every sunday someone is winning big on the sunday million, and i'm sure they would'nt want their account hack, we should be able to play online with some peace of mind, but it is tricky, so many people can be involved, hackers and friends of those, and also maybe some people keep their passwords on their e-mail account because they have multisites, not a good idea....hope security will increase ....i'm sure they can find from wich computer it has been done ( IPS ).....Can't wait to ear more about it, Let us know Dan and good luck at the table |

| siganara | 2/20/2012 2:38:31 PM GMT |
This is the price of the fame, and probably the hacker tryed to prove himself he could do that. I can understand everything is possible, but it is very bad for pokerstars, everything can think his money is not sure. Pokerstars must do something quickly.
------------ Somebody says that money is pocket change for Negreanu. I think a "few" thousands dollars are too much for everybody. Negreanu need much hours for winning that money. |
| f0n0t | 2/20/2012 8:42:02 PM GMT |
| damn , sick |
| DanyGR | 2/27/2012 10:38:17 PM GMT |
| something was happening, something that Negreanu said and upset some people. I think those hackers were put by someone to do this stuff. It's good that they spend only $46k. Could be worse |
| hulkborges | 2/28/2012 5:08:50 AM GMT |
| is so complicated, they are hacking up poker accounts if the account of a pro site has no more security of amateur imagine, already know how the hacker did it? it is interesting that the guy lost money negreanu of the concern is with the image. |
| Endre89 | 2/28/2012 7:55:03 AM GMT |
| That is just crazy...I`m sorry for him because he kind of ,,work``-t for his money... |
