He lost more than $2 million in 2023 poker tournaments!

Canadian professional poker player Daniel Negreanu has shared his 2024 commitment on his X/Twitter account regarding some adjustments that will be made to his poker tournament strategy after realizing he played too many tournaments and performed badly in most of them last year.

He posted a YouTube video on how he lost over $2 million in 2023, detailing the two main reasons of his losses: playing too many tourneys and just plain bad luck. Also, in the end he shared his game plan to help him bounce back and how he can be better in the year 2024.

Many poker fans love Daniel for his transparency regarding the (exact) total amount of cash he won or lost, which is a rare trait in the world of poker stars.

Excluding the year 2020 (Covid), see below Daniel's win/loss results for the past 10 years:

Today, January 4, 2024, Daniel Negreanu wrote in his X/Twitter feed:
I've been in poker for 30 years and throughout that time I've had several lightbulb moments

The latest, I shared in a VLOG from WSOP Paradise in Bahamas

I busted a small tourney and was going to do what everyone does and just rebuy... but I didn't really feel like playing and the $25k GG Millions was the next day

I always play
If there is a rebuy available- I take it even if I don't feel like I have access to my A game
I text @RadioAmanda that night and she said, "You know you never do any good when you don't feel like playing right?"

And it was like my poker career flashed before my eyes, searching for a time when I wasn't all there, but won anyway!

I didn't find it
She was right
I've always prided myself on just keeping at it and playing no matter what, but that isn't the best approach for me
It isn't admirable- it's a leak

In order for me to win at the highest levels, I'm not going to out "GTO" the wizards- I need to be dialed in and just care.
About every tourney I enter, every bullet I fire, every hand I play, every decision, on every street
So I listened to her and went back to the room and got a good nights sleep

The next day I felt fresh and excited to play and I made a deep run in that one

So my commitment in 2024 is:
QUALITY OVER QUANTITY

That means skipping events, getting past FOMO, and only showing up when I feel like a killer ready for battle
I'm 49 now and I learn something new all the time and always plan to

I won late last night and today I recover on the couch and will play again when I NEED to play. When I can't WAIT to play

And not a moment sooner
And I'm proud of myself because before this epiphany I'd be at the studio right now yawning and just going through the motions

In addition to the fact that there was no level, there were not many competent players, that was easier for the professional player, but now almost most of them join a poker school from the beginning to play at the highest level.

He will be on tables for many years more!

there is no doubt about it, negreanu has won a lot of money in the previous years and it gives him enough to live all his life, for sure we will see him in the high level tournaments, but I think he himself has already said that he will select the best tournaments.
 dule-vu24/01/2024 23:57:46 GMT
When you say it then it will be for sure!

It wasn't a poor one... I like Daniel Negranu as a person and in terms of his style of playing poker. Well, you don't always have a good run, sometimes there's a dowswing for everyone, even for professionals. Everyone has good and bad moments when it comes to poker. For us ordinary people, $2 million is a lot of money, but not necessarily for him... He will handle it calmly and will probably bounce back... I believe in him.
 dule-vu25/01/2024 10:23:45 GMT
right...
 geseco1226/01/2024 00:14:27 GMT
he himself said in his youtube channel that he was playing many tournaments and that he was not really selecting which one he should play, that's why he has had bad results, he is a great player, if not the best player.
 dule-vu26/01/2024 00:14:48 GMT
Ofcourse!
 YapiYapo26/01/2024 00:51:08 GMT
Variance is very big especially on high stakes.
 CALICUL26/01/2024 01:10:58 GMT
a professional player can also play at low stakes, but he is used to high stakes, that's why he plays tournaments with high buy-in, even if many times they also play satellite tournaments. Such is the life of these players, but in cash the risk is even greater.
 geseco1227/01/2024 03:04:09 GMT
It is very difficult to be a high level player, to remain for long years is much more difficult, this player already has many years playing poker at the highest level, his advice is worth a lot, he is an example for everyone.
 dule-vu27/01/2024 06:16:23 GMT
Thats why you are on high level!
 geseco1228/01/2024 05:28:58 GMT
everything is a process, overnight you can't do it, in my case I have profits at the end of the month in poker, but that's not all, to become a high level winner you have to have other things more.
 dule-vu28/01/2024 06:40:47 GMT
You know best...
 geseco1229/01/2024 13:39:06 GMT
the gain that the high level players have is incomparable with the low level mortals, but they deserve it, they have had to sacrifice a lot of things for years to get to where they are.
 CALICUL29/01/2024 13:42:45 GMT
this is poker and even the best professional players can have bad periods where they can lose money. I hope that Daniel wins something important this year and recovers his damage.
 Flying24_730/01/2024 18:38:41 GMT
think he will be fine with sponsorship deals alone Club
 geseco1230/01/2024 20:54:43 GMT
bad streaks are always present in any poker player, we must always be prepared to face those bad streaks that is something common in this game, we must always be prepared for it.
 dule-vu30/01/2024 21:01:31 GMT
Whatever!
 geseco1201/02/2024 00:00:21 GMT
It takes a lot of courage to be able to share your results with your followers, not everyone talks about their results, this player is incredible that's why he is one of the best poker players in the world of high level, not only shares his victories but also his defeats.
 CALICUL01/02/2024 00:06:27 GMT
unfortunately he is a more honest player and he made the mistake of revealing some of his strategies. The sharks saw that and this is a big mistake for him because is a great player, but the secrets don't have to be shown.
 geseco1202/02/2024 01:56:58 GMT
you are very right, there are things that can be revealed but there are others that can not, I think this player looks very prepared and I do not think he has revealed many things that will hurt him in the long run, he knows.
 dule-vu02/02/2024 01:57:22 GMT
One month stories about same thing! But you are better then him, you are pro, our pele...
 geseco1203/02/2024 02:17:17 GMT
What does pele have to do here? you spam every day, you should comment on what the news says, and not be always changing and putting nonsense in the forum.
 CALICUL03/02/2024 02:31:33 GMT
Daniel Negreanu is more appropriate to follow, than to enter in ugly the game of this member of BRM. He does this with all the members he hates. We must to talk about the threads and wish luck to this professional player, in the hope that he will recover his money and make a profit in 2024.
