Viktor Blom and PokerStars Part Ways

Last night, Eric Hollreiser, PokerStars' head of corporate communications, made the announcement that Viktor "Isildur1" Blom and the company have agreed not to renew his expired contract.

"In his short time as a poker player, Viktor has played against the biggest names in poker at the highest stakes in the toughest games. It's hard to recall a player who has kept the poker world so riveted at such an early stage of his career. We'll be watching with great interest and we wish him nothing but success." Hollreiser told PokerNews.

"I've enjoyed my time as a Team Pro and I wish everyone at PokerStars the best. Now I just want to concentrate on playing poker." said Blom.

Blom was signed by PokerStars in 2011 after playing the highest stakes at Full Tilt Poker under the alias "Isildur1" since 2009. The action was insane whenever Viktor Blom was playing ring games or heads up matches at Full Tilt Poker, and he was involved in many hands where more than half a million dollars was at stake. However, it was in 2009 that he and Patrik Antonius played the biggest pot in online poker history.

Now, Blom's biggest achivements as Team PokerStars Pro was winning 11 of his 14 matches in the SuperStar Showdown, and his win of the 2012 PokerStars Caribbean Aventure High Roller for $1,254,000.

It will be interesting to see what Viktor Blom has planned for his poker future. Maybe we will see a comeback at Full Tilt Poker when it is open for business again? Time will tell!

Not surprised...Blom doesn't strike me as a hype man who's going to profess his undying love for PS and do press junkets and the whole rigmarole.

He wants to play poker without the BS marketing - well played.

I actually talked to him a few days ago and he said that he didn't really want to keep playing at PS. They were pretty much pushing him and he felt that he had lost quite a bit of interest for poker so now he just wants to play his own game and don't have to worry about any expectations that a contract brings.

And yes, I've met him a few times, he lives just about 20 kilometers from me. Ive met him at quite a few parties over the years Tongue

Its always the best be your own boss then that someone always forces you to do something all the time with not much of the interests

well this paves the way for him to join full tilt poker when it finally launches, and considering that pokerstars own full til now- he basically transferred himself from one company office to another (virtually), just wonder how many of the old pro players will remain in the new full tilt...

I think that to see him leaving the Pokerstars Team has definitely something to do with the Full Tilt Poker restart. Blom’s carreer and success is linked with FTP story as well so, having FTP coming back in good wealth again, what better name to give the face for them and to help them gaining player’s confidence than the most famous FTP player, anonimous and after having his identity revealed? Viktor "Isildur1" Blom, of course! No one would need a magician to pull this rabbit out of the hat.
