Triton Poker SHR Series Jeju HKD250K Short Deck Event won by Justin Bonomo for $586K

The opening event of the 2019 Triton Poker Super High Roller Series has been won by none other than the current number 1 player in the All-Time Money List, Justin Bonomo.

Short Deck Poker, also called 6-Plus Hold’em, is a card poker game based on Texas Hold’em. While the rules are mostly the same, short deck poker is played with a 36-card deck instead of 52. The deck is reduced by removing all cards 2 through 5. This game type became popular in the East Asian high-stakes cash game circuit. Check out the hand rankings here.

On March 2, Saturday, the 33-year-old ZeeJustin outlasted 65 entries (including 28 re-entries) in Event #1, a Short Deck Ante-Only tournament with a HK$250,000 buy-in. Despite being one of the less-experienced short-deck players, Bonomo bested everyone to win HK$4.6 million (or US$568,114).

Bonomo started the final day in 13th place out of 15 remaining players, with the final 8 set to receive a payout. In the final hand (which was only a short heads-up battle) Bonomo had a 2:1 chip lead against Yeu Wei Hsiang, and his A-10 suited won against Hsiang’s A-Q.

Bonomo said after he won, “I’m super happy to have won this obviously. A lot of people at the table had a lot of experience of short deck. For me, a lot of the spots were new and I had to figure them out as I went along. Some decisions I just ended up guessing. It’s a lot of fun learning. I really like the dynamic puzzle aspect, just solving things on the fly. It’s stressful though. People are watching on the stream at home. My friends are watching. I just don’t want to make a huge mistake.”

He added, “It’s a fantastic start. My plan for short deck this week was to play the smallest buy-in and see how I’d feel to see if I’ll play the higher buy ins. I couldn’t be happier right now.”

poker on a short deck of cards is a rather attractive game ... somehow the tournament was playing ... It was a long time ago ... I don’t remember at what poker room ... but there was a tournament in just this kind of poker ... and I won this tournament in some surprising way ... so I only have good memories of this kind of poker

When you have what it takes, and you are lucky also this can happen.
He started the final day on 13th position out of fifteen, and he managed to win
the tournament, for a bit more than 500k USD Smile
And he is also in number one position, in all time money.
And still young. He can make an even greater career out of it.

Were they $500k worth of good memories just like Justin's now or not? Otherwise might not worth it remembering for Big Smile

The games of this Justin Bonomo should be carefully monitored by all poker players. His success in recent years is appreciated and he continues to win tournaments. I really like his ambition and if it continues in this way will be very distant at the top of the rankings vs. 2nd place which belongs to Daniel Negreanu.

yes it is interesting situation when players see that Justin bonomo is in list of people playing tournament they are sad because they all know that they play for second place only Tongue of course joke, but it is interesting to see he wins in poker variant where he is not experienced
