Winning millions is something each and every one of us dream of when we buy a lottery ticket or get a scratch card. The thing is, when we do win, we imagine that what happens next can be a wonderful moment of happiness and unexplained sense of relief, knowing that for some time, we can do or afford things we want or need without having to worry about money.
In Jamaica, a certain A. Campbell won a whopping JM$158,400,000 (or US$1.1 million). He waited 54 days before going to the lottery office to collect his prize on February 5, 2019. What's oddly interesting was that the winner showed up wearing the famously iconic mask from the 1996 Scream movie, for the purpose of hiding his/her identity as the awarding ceremony was televised for the public to see. Aside from the mask, he/she wore what looked like a white lab gown to further conceal their gender.
This is not an unusual sight for the Jamaican populace though, because other winners of the country have made it a trend to wear various masks as they claim their winnings in front of the public and on TV. Take for example this Jamaican winner named N. Gray who on June 2018 showed up wearing an emoji mask. While we can see from the picture that the winner was clearly a woman, still she hid her face really well - a good strategy to protect herself from preying robbers (and even a few opportunistic relatives and friends).

There are actually many countries that allow lottery winners to remain anonymous. In the United States, only seven states out of fifty allow lottery jackpot winners to stay anonymous and these are Delaware, Kansas, Maryland, North Dakota, Ohio, South Carolina and Texas. In Australia, China, Europe, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom, jackpot winners are actually given the choice to publicly declare their win or stay anonymous.
