UKGC proposes Gambling Companies must Set £100 Monthly Limit on Player Losses

Losses incurred by gamblers in the United Kingdom could face a £100 limit per month - a new idea proposed by the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC). This is the local authorities' new move to make sure gambling operators are more responsible when it comes to addressing problem gambling in the country.

The proposal has been revealed just recently and the UKGC is currently reviewing it. This comes in light of the campaign for stricter regulation to be imposed on the gambling sector to ensure that local residents, especially those who find it difficult to control their gambling habits, will not be allowed to spend more money on the services than they can actually afford to.

Based on the estimates provided by the UK gambling regulatory body, around 21% of the 2 million people in the country who are considered as problem gamblers or those who may develop an addiction to gambling admit that they indeed spend on gambling services more than they could really afford.

Also, the watchdog explained that more than 50% of the country's population has what's called a "discretionary income" of below £250 per month. Discretionary income is described as the amount that is left after a person have had their basic living costs, taxes and social security charges deducted from their gross income. The gambling regulatory body also said that the amount was usually spent on other general expenses, including clothing, sport, and leisure rather than on gambling only.

Current Gambling Limit Amounts deemed Inappropriate and Unrealistic

The consultation held by the UKGC came to a decision that the betting limits that are currently set by some companies which usually reach thousands of pounds were inappropriate.

Some experts believe that the gambling limits of £2,000 are considered to be inappropriate and unrealistic. Such betting limits must be made significantly lower. At the time, the lowest possible limit is likely to be set at a maximum loss of £100 per month.

Other than that, the authorities have been exploring other measures as part of their campaign to impose stricter measures aimed at protecting British gamblers from the potential harm brought about by excessive gambling. The measures include imposing 1-hour time limits after which players are set to see some curbs imposed on their bonus winnings.

Gambling Act of 2005

The UK Gambling sector continues to expand at a pretty fast pace. In 2011, the industry's total worth was estimated at £8.4 billion. This number almost doubled by the start of 2019, reaching a whopping £14.4 billion, according to reports.

As the government of the UK is now set to review the Gambling Act of 2005, the major gambling regulatory body shall clearly aim on introducing a new regulation that would be more appropriate to control the sector.

Even though some companies have objected to the move after they found it concerning, the introduction of a new regulation doesn't seem so bad as it could prevent the UK gambling sector from facing even more stricter measures being imposed as an initiative of the government.

wow, they are really crazy in uk when they want to do something like this!first they made that you can have buy in future option on slots, then they made they you cant make bigger bets then 2 pound in betting shops on machines (they still can online) and now they want to do this to online players, that they cant lose more then 100 pounds!so they will need to know how much you earn, how much you spend in life, that they can give you this limit!where this world go...

This solution will not be to the liking of all operators that offer gambling, but these people also have to pay rent, water, gas, electricity, etc... they have families and can easily ruin themselves... if do not have a deposit limit per month. Will be good in this way.

this uk goverment is very stupid and now we can see who did lead them to come out of EU!they make some very stupid regulation with gambling and now they will follow every gambler in UK to see how much he earn, how much he spend and then to give him ban when he lose more then 100 pounds!but that will work for online gambling,so people will go more in betting shops!

It does not make sense what they are getting, each one can do with their money what best suits them, it is like saying that you must have a limit to go to spend in a bar, it is illogical, the money comes and each one should be aware of their actions and the state should not interfere, there are people who live from that, the higher the income the better for them.

I understand in one hand what they want to do,probably because they give lot of money to social cases, which they use for many years and now they want to control them!lot of people lost their jobs in last months because of corona or goverment payed them to stay at home,so now they want to be sure on what they will spend this money!
but ofcourse its not normal that they know on what you will spend your money and how much you spend on your living costs!
 CALICUL09/11/2020 22:37:53 GMT
It is not fair for everyone to do what they want with their money, because this is about protecting the players. Many gamblers would put their fortune in casino and that would mean many complaints and big headaches for the authorities. Here is a good decision.

this is not good decision and this will be just another way how goverments will control you, same as they dont allow some sites to be active in country, this is another way to stop you from playing and to make choice for you how you will spend your own money!its not up to them how much you will spend on gambling!

The limit the government thinks to set is very low , I believe British gamblers can afford more than this , if sb has addiction problems or financial damage because of overbetting , he can ask the operator to ban him for 1 month , 6 months , from all games ortheone he lose all the time , he can be protected , this can be done everywhere not only in the UK . Setting such a bet limit to all is unfair , some like betting more , some have many profits , different people , different incomes , different betting habits and desire for enentertainment of such kind .
 dule-vu13/11/2020 21:06:42 GMT
yes,no matter what limit is it,its stupid when they do it and to talk about 100 pounds limit!they already made 2 pound limit on bets and now they do something like this, even we all know how much money they earn from betting companies, shops or online, sponsors to football clubs, taxes, everything!
they know how much money they give to football and now they want that they earn less?stupid!also crazy that they dont allow to spend money on what they want and they will take care how much they spend on electricity, water, how much they earn and then to see how much they can spend on gambling?!

UK was known to me for the freedom it granted all businesses , especially the gambling businesses , I do not know what has changed in the minds of the governors , protecting the civilians is a joke , they have enough protection and do not need any more , all these are based on exagerrations . I hope they won't take measures in the end similar to the ones that Germany took , which are rediculous .
 CALICUL14/11/2020 08:50:11 GMT
There should be a limit for each player who entering in casinos, sports betting halls, lotteries, bingo or online. Whoever disagrees with this means that they only care about money. Same thing with owners or employees. That is not nice.
 dule-vu14/11/2020 21:18:28 GMT
you are right antonis, you give right to all kind of people and all kind of jobs, but when its something like this you will forbid players to play and set limits on account, even they dont want it!its stupid if somebody have lot of money, but he dont earn from regular job,you will set him limit even he can pay everything?let people to live!
 CALICUL16/11/2020 09:41:45 GMT
You can't let people to live, if don't take action... based on the value of their salaries or accounts. This could be established and gamblers can be categorized into several levels. I mean from small to professional. There is no need to let a poor man bet all his money and then have nothing to eat.

100 pounds sterlings losee per month is not a logical limit to set for a player generally everywhere , especially at England , where incomes are better than in some other countries . You might lose 100
UK pounds or sth more in one session or maybe two sessions , but then in the next day come back with a profit of 400 pounds , then 1000pounds , and then 3000 pounds in casino games . Also this can happen in poker or sportsbetting online or live . So setting such a low limit to lose per month for everyone is completely idiotic and irrational
 CALICUL22/11/2020 16:49:16 GMT
Look at the good side of things. People who wanted to play, were afraid that they would spend too much money in casinos, and then avoid going into them. Now they have opportunity to enjoy without fear of being financially ruined for a whole month.

probably they want to have rule for those people who gets social help from goverment or they have normal salary, but bigger problem is when they control everything and they will now on what exactly you spend your own money, how much you spend on electricity and so on!in this year they made very strict rules about gambling in UK and this is just antoher one that is stupid!
 CALICUL24/11/2020 18:24:16 GMT
Those who have taken measures (authorities of united kingdom) should know that these restrictions can be made on several levels. Social classes are very different, and we can't compare ourselves with someone who earns 5000, 10 k or more pounds per month.

People who getsocial help are counted responsible themselves fornot good spending of their little money , to set a limit and put the government to impose it in all the ountry for evryone , this is crazy , and it violates directly the personal freedom of every citizen , the right to decide what
he 'll do with his own money . There are enough ways for every gamble problem player to protect himself , casinos/poker rooms and players can take measures by themselves or coopeerate or the players to ask the help of the casinos (tout some limts on their spendings per month , which can be done if the players asks for it . in some casi nos or poker rooms when you register you are askeed whether you want toput some limits on yourselves , depositing or playing through limits per month )

Personally I believe even tese measures are more than enough . The players themselves should restrain themselves , they are not kids . But anayway , even in the worst scenario , not every plyer and normal gambler will pay the price because of some problem gamblers . Even in these occasions , of these problem gamblers , most ofthem can find the money to gamble ,so they are not poor , by the meaning not to be able to feed themselves or pay the most necessary blls , let's say they cannot live normally like all the others with the same salary . The restriction won't stop them I believe , they need help , by help I mean specialists to help them find solutions financial , social , personal help , or else they will find a way to gamble more than the limit of 100 pounds , dollars , euros or whatever lol .

Anyway , I still do not understand , why all have to pay the price if 20% only have some kind of problem (which by all means cannot be identified strictly as gambling problem in very poor conditions in this country , The UK , that only would be imo a lot less ) . Let the normal gamblers play as much as they want , let the problem gamblers play as much aws they handle , and if they ask for help from the casino or restricted access to games or monthly deposit limit , casino will help them . If they need personal help for personal problems , set a national number and a a service for problem gamblers or other problems poor guys or not , so as to get personal help there Smile

it would be same if you make restrictions to some women, who love to spend money on clothes and then you dont give her option to spend more then 100 pounds online!but ofcourse he can go to buy something in mall, like this gambler can go in local betting shop or casino and there to spend money!so he spend money anyway!

Our friend Maragatero was good at calculating limits per month, because he was very mathematically calculated when chose to use his bankroll. Unfortunately, has not been active for about two months. I hope he's healthy. I like this restriction in UK.
