UEFA has announced that the boy who ran into the field and took a selfie with Cristiano Ronaldo on Saturday, June 22, will be banned from attending any further matches at Euro 2024.
The incident happened during Portugal's 3-0 win against Turkey at Dortmund's Westfalenstadion. A boy made his way to the center circle, took out his phone and snapped the photo as a smiling Ronaldo crouched down to get in the frame.
The youngster then ran off to evade stewards until he was caught and led out of the stadium. The picture was posted to social media after the game and it quickly went viral.
Because of this incident, UEFA will be introducing additional security measures at Euro 2024 fixtures. They will file criminal complaints against any individual who invades the pitch. The move comes after six spectators tried to take photos with Cristiano Ronaldo during Portugal's Group F win versus Turkey in Dortmund on Saturday.
A UEFA spokesperson told ESPN: "Safety and security in the stadium, on the pitch and at team facilities are the ultimate priority for UEFA, DFB (German Football Association) and Euro 2024.
To this end, additional safety measures will be deployed in the stadiums to further meet the requirements of the tournament, and to prevent such incidents. For reasons of security, we cannot comment further on specific measures.
As a reminder, any incursion onto the pitch constitutes a breach of the stadium rules and will result in expulsion from the stadium, a ban from all tournament matches and the filing of a formal criminal complaint for trespass."
Portugal secured its qualification for the Round of 16 as Group F winners by beating Turkey and they will play their final group game against Georgia in Gelsenkirchen on Wednesday.
The Euro 2016 winners shall then play their round-of-16 fixture against a third-place qualifier in Frankfurt on July 1.
In that match many fans came to ask Cristiano Ronaldo for a photo, but we know that Cristiano took a photo with the little one and not with the big ones, because he knows that it is disrespectful to do so, they already know it.
Watching all these intruders during the game , it reminds me other games with intruders as well , who interrupted game to get a picture with their favourite player or just to show his face to his friends on TV .
It's good that directors tend not to show them , take the cameras away from them . It's good to impose stricter punishment to these guys . Lifetime ban from athletic events , everywhere . And why not a financial comprehension , pay a fine , then we will see if they will do this again . I think there was a guy in the past who was doing this all the time , he was famous for this , Jimmy jump i think it was .
it is not nice with naked fans, but children are children and should not be punished for sometimes entering the field. The security is to blame, because they don't get the job done and things get out of control sometimes.
the children are not to blame. They just want to be close to their idols, but I think they should have more security so that the show does not stop, and also that the footballers have the option of not losing the rhythm of the game.
No matter is it child or man who 70 year, its same rule! You cant stop the game just because you want picture! Maybe its normal in peru, but in rest of world its not!
It is not normal in everyone. The people who pay to see the show are being disrespected, that should be changed, and we should be stricter, the same thing always happens in games of great importance, they are making it more common now.
Of course, no one can know what someone who runs into the field will do, but the security is not to blame either, how many people do they need to hire to cover the entire field? As I see it, there is enough security and if someone wants to run onto the field, it is difficult to stop them.
There is a lot of security, but they always enter the playing field, I don't know why they make it so easy, but in addition to all that it damages the show, these people should be punished, we know that they want to meet their childhood idol but they should also respect the game.
I felt very sorry for Cristiano Ronaldo after his elimination, but this should not be something that changes much, he already gave everything for his country, and many are his fans, they even enter the field to take a photo with him, I hope that too Change the rules so everyone can enjoy.
It is not the most relevant thing in a European Championship, but it is very important for all those who come to the stadiums to see the show, each of the fans pays to watch football and not to see people go into the fields.
It is something that always has to be brought up for debate, this always happens, it would not catch my attention if this happens again in the Euro Cup final, they should have stricter laws for everyone, the players deserve respect like everyone else.
What language is this comment in this post, I think they should write everything in English. I'm sure you are not aware of this, but I also started like this and I think they corrected me in the forum, I hope I can do it.
