On Sunday, February 9, the Philadelphia Eagles has claimed their second Super Bowl title in Philadelphia's franchise history, following its championship from the 2017 season.

The Philadelphia Eagles dominated the game from start to finish against the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 in this year's Super Bowl LIX, to claim the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

The game between the Eagles and Chiefs was a rematch of the 2023 Super Bowl, which the Chiefs won 38-35.

The Chiefs entered the game as the reigning Super Bowl champions, after beating the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in overtime last year. Kansas City was trying to become the first team in NFL history to win three Super Bowls in a row.

Opening Music
The night started with singer-songwriter Ledisi who sang the Black national anthem "Lift Every Voice and Sing".

Trombone Shorty and Christian singer Lauren Daigle sang "America the Beautiful" and multi-talented performer Jon Batiste sang the national anthem "The Star-Spangled Banner".

First and Second Quarter

First Quarter

The first two drives of Super Bowl LIX ended with punts. The Eagles struggled after a controversial offensive pass interference call on AJ Brown, while the Chiefs' drive stalled after a first down. The Eagles scored first on their second drive when Jalen Hurts connected with Jahan Dotson for 27 yards, then ran it in from one yard out after a touchdown was overturned. The Eagles' defense contained Mahomes and the Chiefs, while Philly's offense found success through the air. Kansas City's defense limited Saquon Barkley, slowing the Eagles' attack.

Second Quarter

The Eagles' defense took control in the second quarter, with Cooper DeJean's pick-six putting them up 17-0. Moments earlier, the Eagles sacked Mahomes twice, and DeJean intercepted him for a 38-yard touchdown. After forcing a punt, Eagles punter Braden Mann pinned the Chiefs deep, and Josh Sweat pressured Mahomes into another interception, which led to a 12-yard touchdown from Hurts to Brown. The Chiefs, struggling to protect Mahomes, had only one first down in the first half and needed quick adjustments to avoid a repeat of their Super Bowl LV loss.

Apple Music Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show

The Super Bowl LIX halftime show on Sunday night was headlined by Kendrick Lamar. He's no stranger to the Super Bowl stage, having performed previously at the NFL's championship game in 2022 as a guest singer alongside Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, Eminem and Mary J. Blige.

The rapper was introduced by actor Samuel L. Jackson, 76, dressed as 'Uncle Sam,' and performed a medley of his hits before being joined by R&B singer SZA, 35.

Third and Fourth Quarter

Having won the coin toss, the Kansas City Chiefs elected to defer possession for the second half. The Eagles will receive the ball to start the game.

Third Quarter

Down by the largest deficit of his career, Mahomes struggled in the second half, sacked twice as the Chiefs' offense stalled with just two first downs. The Eagles moved down the field on their opening drive, with Hurts and Barkley leading the charge, and extended their lead to 27-0 with a field goal. A costly holding penalty on the Chiefs halted their next drive, and Hurts then threw a 46-yard touchdown to Smith, making it 34-0. The Chiefs finally scored with a 24-yard Mahomes-to-Worthy touchdown, but a failed two-point conversion left them trailing 34-6, with the game feeling like an Eagles victory.

Fourth Quarter

Hurts set a new record for rushing yards by a quarterback in a Super Bowl, surpassing 72 yards with a field goal extending the Eagles' lead to 37-6. On the Chiefs' next drive, Milton Williams sacked Mahomes, recovering the fumble to continue the Eagles' defensive dominance. A field goal pushed the lead to 40-6. The Chiefs scored a late touchdown and two-point conversion, making it 40-14. With the game secure, Kenny Pickett and Kenneth Gainwell ran out the clock, while Brown and Smith doused coach Sirianni in a Gatorade shower. Mahomes threw a late 50-yard touchdown to Worthy, who finished with eight catches for 157 yards and two scores.

Philadelphia Eagles win Super Bowl 2025!

In the final two minutes, the Eagles, who entered as underdogs, sealed their dominance, shutting down Mahomes and the Chiefs' offense. A deep ball pass to Smith put an exclamation point on the game, ending things before the end of the third quarter. It was a remarkable team performance, from players to coaches.
The Eagles sealed their victory, ending the game with a score of 40-22.

Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts was named Super Bowl MVP after passing for 221 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception, while also rushing for 72 yards and a touchdown.
Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw for 257 yards, but all three of his touchdown passes came after the Chiefs already trailed 34-0.
Travis Kelce, Mahomes' most dependable receiving target as Kansas City win three Super Bowls in the last five years, caught four passes for 39 yards.

And that concludes the 2025 Super Bowl LIX.

If you're already looking forward to next year's Super Bowl, then it will be held at the Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California on February 8, 2026.
