Daniel Negreanu, widely known as "Kid Poker", has added a new role to his impressive list of partnerships, becoming the first gambling-related ambassador for the prediction market platform Kalshi.
A seven-time WSOP bracelet winner and one of poker's most marketable figures, Negreanu has long been the face of major brands. He previously fronted PokerStars and is currently a lead ambassador for GGPoker, whose parent company owns the World Series of Poker. Now, he's expanding his reach once again with this latest collaboration.
On Tuesday, September 16, Negreanu announced his new partnership with Kalshi, joining a growing roster of high-profile personalities including comedian Tim Dillon and golf content creator Club Pro Guy.
As part of the deal, Negreanu is promoting the platform with a personalized promo code and a high-value giveaway. Users who register using his code will be entered to win a luxury poker experience, including:
- A $26,000 ticket to the WSOP Paradise Super Main Event in December
- Nine nights at Atlantis, the host venue for the tournament
- Access to an exclusive player lounge
- GGPoker Paradise-branded merchandise
Kalshi Enters the Gambling Space, Carefully
Although Kalshi has recruited influencers from various fields, Negreanu is the first with a direct link to the gambling world. His addition is particularly notable given Kalshi's current efforts to distance itself legally and publicly from the traditional gambling industry.
In his Instagram announcement, Negreanu emphasized that he has already been using the platform. But he was careful to frame Kalshi not as a betting site, but as a trading platform.
"It's not a sportsbook. Meaning you can get better odds," Negreanu explained. "You won't get limited for winning too much. And you can trade in and out of positions even within games. And because it's a trading market, it's available in all 50 states."
This phrasing aligns with Kalshi's positioning amid ongoing legal scrutiny. The company is currently involved in several legal battles with states that argue Kalshi is essentially operating as an unlicensed sportsbook.
Nevada and New Jersey both filed lawsuits under that premise, but Kalshi successfully countered by obtaining a preliminary injunction and temporary restraining order in federal court. However, the company wasn't as successful in Maryland, where it lost a legal challenge. That said, Kalshi is still allowed to operate in Maryland while the appeals process is underway. Massachusetts also filed a suit just last week.
Could Poker Prediction Markets Be Next?
Kalshi currently offers markets on a wide range of topics, including sports, politics, cryptocurrency, and even weather. But it has yet to tap into the world of poker, something that could easily change with Negreanu on board.
There is precedent for betting on poker outcomes. In 2011, the Nevada Gaming Control Board allowed sportsbooks to take bets on the WSOP Main Event final table. While interest was modest due to the in-person-only nature of betting in Nevada, it laid the groundwork for what a larger-scale platform like Kalshi could offer.
With Kalshi's broader reach and technology, future poker markets could include bets on tournament field sizes, final table outcomes, or Player of the Year standings. And with Negreanu's dual role at Kalshi and GGPoker, the necessary infrastructure and data verification, much like Kalshi's arrangement with FOX for NFL markets, could already be within reach.
