Votto reaches base nine times in one day
CINCINNATI -- Joey Votto has long been regarded as one of baseball's best at getting on base. During Wednesday's day-night doubleheader vs. the Cubs, the Reds' first baseman made it a historic feat. While going a combined 5-for-6 with four walks in the two games, Votto became the first player since Robinson Cano in 2010 to reach base nine times in one day. According to Cincinnati television statistician Joel Luckhaupt, Votto is also the first Reds player to reach nine times in one day since Pete Rose on July 2, 1976, vs. the Astros.

As rumors swirl, Samardzija keeps his focus Right-hander spins great outing as White Sox inch closer to Trade Deadline
CLEVELAND -- There are some who believe Jeff Samardzija increased his trade value via a stellar eight-inning performance during the White Sox 8-1 victory over the Indians Thursday night at Progressive Field. Next up for Samardzija would be the Red Sox on Tuesday at Fenway Park. But as Samardzija candidly explained, that start and team he's starting for could change. "We're going to keep playing. We have no other plans," a smiling Samardzija said. "We're going to go out and play every day."

Great Scott! Kazmir sizzles in KC heat Left-hander tosses seven shutout innings in Astros debut
KANSAS CITY -- If he were to be graded on his first impression, Scott Kazmir would certainly receive an "A" from his admiring new Astros' teammates. One day after being acquired from Oakland, the stylish left-hander showed up at Kauffman Stadium, did an impromptu meet-and-greet and then proceeded to deliver seven scoreless innings on three hits in Houston's 4-0 victory over the Royals. The win helped the Astros move into a virtual tie for first place in the American League West with the Angels, who lost to the Rangers, 4-2, on Friday night. "He came as advertised," Astros manager A.J. Hinch said. "That was an excellent outing. He had all his stuff working."

Another no-hitter means free pizza Monday
Baseball's third no-hitter this season means more free Domino's pizza. The Phillies, who combined to also no-hit the Braves on Labor Day 2014 to bring free pizza, registered another #DomiNoNo on Saturday at Wrigley Field in a 5-0 win over the Cubs. It was the 13th no-no in Phillies history and the first at Wrigley since 1972. Starting at 3 p.m. ET on Monday, the first 20,000 baseball fans who visit and log in at MLB.com/dominos will receive a code for a free, two-topping medium Handmade Pan Pizza.

Royals excited to acquire Cueto from Reds
KANSAS CITY -- Finally, after almost a day of speculation, the Royals completed a trade for Reds right-hander Johnny Cueto on Sunday. The deal was announced during the third inning of the Royals' 5-1 win over the Astros: Cueto and cash considerations to Kansas City for left-handers Brandon Finnegan, John Lamb and Cody Reed. Cueto, 7-6 with a 2.62 ERA, could help shore up a rotation which has wobbled much of the season because of injuries and ineffectiveness. Last week, the Royals lost left-handed starter Jason Vargas for the season due to an elbow injury.

Bryant 'wakes up' Cubs with 1st walk-off HR Rookie hits walk-off HR to beat Rockies Monday night
CHICAGO -- During Saturday's game against the Phillies' Cole Hamels, the Cubs' Kris Bryant hit two long fly balls that reached the warning track. Hamels finished with a no-hitter. But on Monday, Bryant's fortunes turned out a whole lot better. The rookie belted a walk-off, two-run homer with two outs in the ninth to power the Cubs to a 9-8 victory over the Rockies, who had scored four runs in the top of the inning.

Royals marvel at Infante-Escobar flip play
CLEVELAND -- Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas couldn't quite decide which play he enjoyed more: The Eric Hosmer snag of a hot grounder by Michael Brantley to save a run in the seventh, or the circus-act Omar Infante /Alcides Escobar play to get the first out in the ninth of the Royals' 2-1 win on Tuesday night over the Indians. "Based solely on degree of sickness," Moustakas said, "probably the Omar/Esky play."

Tulo says hello: Newcomer dazzles in debut In first career start batting leadoff, Blue Jays new arrival homers, doubles twice, drives in three
TORONTO -- Troy Tulowitzki apparently has a thing for making positive first impressions, because he didn't waste any time showing his teammates and the city of Toronto just how good he can be. Tulowitzki went 3-for-5 with a home run, two doubles, three RBIs and three runs to lead the Blue Jays to an 8-2 victory over the Phillies in his American League debut Wednesday. Not bad for a guy who less than 36 hours prior had been left stunned by a shocking trade away from the only Major League franchise he had ever known.
