What do you think earns you the title of PRO poker player.(or semi-pro)

I think if you play poker for a living, and it works - then you're a pro...
a "professional" - as in "it's your profession"... Smile

OK i gotta stir it up a little Big Smile
OK, you have a bad year or two Shock , are you now not a PRO?
If your e-bay account earns more than you do at poker, do you get demoted?
I expect to see some outher votes with good reason...lets see.
Hopefull this will make a good debate on what a PRO intails.

I voted amount you win but I don't know what the cut off point is then. It's obviously not that when you earn so much you're not a pro and you earn one more dollar and you are. But I don't think it's percentage of income because if you invest your money in something else that earns you twice as much money but you earn over a hundred grand in poker a year then I think that still makes you a pro.

Stakes has something to do with it. Only pros risk serious amount of money regularly but it's not inclusive. Time you put in has nothing to do with it. If you earn it all in a single tourney a year and can live off that for the rest of the year then you're still a pro.

I think that being a poker pro means you know very well the game, you are a good poker reader and that you can adapt to different situations. THe choice in the poll i put the percentage of income because being a pro in the end will make you win a lot more than average players!

It is the Dollar Dollar Dollar Dollar that one makes with the game.

But everyone can call himself a "poker pro". You don't need a licence for the game. Smile

if you still have a roll to play with after two bad years (ie. you're not completely broke) and still manage to survive (remember - you're playing poker for a living) - then you're still a pro
Smile

if poker is not your primary source if income, but you play A LOT - then it gets tricky... if your poker is bank-rolled by your ebay, and you keep losing that at the tables (for two years!!!!) - they you might be a really bad "poker pro" ? Smile

but really, any decent pro wouldn't be losing consistently for that long, right?

What if you get lucky once and win a lot of money? Would you be called "a pro"?

I guess for as long as you live off the money. But not if you buy a car or one expensive item then go back to work.

You're a pro if you manage to keep a profit... Win some big tournaments etcetc

You're also a pro if you manage to play in the WSOP starting from stage 1 - buyin $0,10 ^^ lol!

literaly a professional is someone who makes a living out of it. but i would also call someone a pro who has a good understanding for poker and has a ever-increasing bankroll (no matter what limit he plays)...or call it expert?

I think you become a pro player, when you make enough money to make living out of it or you win a big tournament, for that you need to play high stakes to generate enough money and your profit shouldn't be short term.

If you've been playing poker for a living for the last three years ... You are a professional. Must have a few years under your belt.

i think to be a pro: you must have the balls to risk all with the nuts, have the brains when to know not to risk it, have the intelligence to read and understand others, have complete faith in youself, have a proactive attititude with the ability to get up, dust off and start again. and preffably the diiscipline to know never to risk it all, summary is: all of the above with an understanding of bankroll managment and pot odds, and to float through life using your skills to sustain all you reqire (heaven) Cool

Totaly agree.

You can be a bad or good pro, but if it is your job, you are professsional.
